2017 TRD OR with tow package. I am aware of the P to D delayed engagement issue, but was different. Drove to a restaurant, had dinner, then coming home five minutes into the drive I stopped at a stop light and as I let off the brake, nothing until it hit about 1500 rpms and then is slammed into gear. I thought someone hit me from behind. Has been pretty cold here and haven’t tried to replicate.

Been pretty cold here, but has anyone experienced this or know what can be the cause?

Low fluid level would be my first guess.

    Being cold accentuates the issue.

Guaranteed they didn’t check tranny fluid level. It’s a pain to do so correctly.

    Not.A.Chance.

If low, it came that way from the factory.

I thought about that but I had already been driving for a bit with no issues.

Torque Converter lock? Mine has done some weird stuff like that when merging on the highway before where I have my foot DOWN and see the RPMs climbing but its like it isn't in gear then BOOM it slams into gear similarly to what you're describing. I'd bet it wouldn't do it if you were in S-mode which as I understand prevents TC lock/unlock cycles?

ECT and/or S-mode I've never experienced this - always happens in D, FWIW

Yep. Experienced 4, little bit of 5 and 9 under the list of symptoms. I have an appointment Friday, should I call corporate ahead of time as well to make sure the issue is logged, or will that just create drama with the service department and I should let them get first crack at it. Service department confirmation emails states "Transmission Concern - 'Customer States, Transmission Slips On Acceleration When Cold
    Multipoint Inspection"

That's not really what you described. You described a non engagement until pressure built enough to 'slam' into gear.

But if it's close enough to get them to actually check the fluid level properly, so be it.

If the dealership checks the fluid and finds it to be full during a manual fluid level check ,There is an issue with the 5 speed auto in the 2nd gens that is similar to what he is complaining about .
Considering the trans in the 2016 and up is nearly identical to the 5 speed , have a peek at this .

I've been having a somewhat similar issue too. You can see in the video that the RPMS go smoothly to about 1500 and then drop back to 1000 before climbing again.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/acceleration-bogging-down.523236/

I am back to the stock tune, stock intake and this issue still persists. I took it to the dealer a couple weeks ago and they replicated the issue - per the tech's notes the truck "falls on its face during installation" but they don't have any idea what is causing it so far.

I would call corp now .
You have over 5K on the truck now and you arent sure if the trans fluid is full ?
Better to have the complaint logged rather than trusting the dealership to check the fluid properly

Keep on Truckin' and over60 like this.
