ok first lry me say that i have a 2014 4.0V6 with around 26,000 miles on it. Now with that being said, if i let my truck set for three or four days, when i start it up,i get this really weird like loud clangy noise.

It only does it after i let my truck set for a couple days, and it only does it on the first start. I can shut the truck off, and immediatly start it back up and the noise does not happen again. It is only after is has set for three or four days. I know the vacuum noise, but this is completely different. The vacuum noise takes about 4 seconds before it happens, but this noise happens within a second or so of start up, then the vacuum noise happens after this noise.

I have not lost any power or fuel economy, theres no noise whenits running, its just at that first startup. I will try and record it the next time i let it set a couple of days, ive been driving it everyday this week, but sometimes i drive my spare car for a week to keep it in working condition.

I was just wondering if there was anyone else that was having or hearing this, and what it possibly could be. Its not like and engine clang either, its just a weird like plastic clanging together and not metal. Ive inly noticed it a handful of times.

If by chance this is in the wrong section, admins please move it to the correct section.

What type of oil filter are you using?
Some cheap filters will allow the oil in the filter to flow back into the crankcase over time ( anti drain back valve is not present or leaking inside the oil filter ). Fram Filters are notorious for this.

I think what you hear is the valve train and timing gears before it gets lubrication flowing again.

I take it to my dealer and get it done. Its factory parts. And its not really a metal clanking noise. Its more like a plastic type noise.

You're still under warranty, have Toyota figure it out.

They'll most likely have you leave it overnight. No rental though unless they find something.

Mine could possibly be a lifter but it doesnt last that long, and it only lasts a second or so and then goes away.

Okay, I did t drive it for a couple days after i posted this and i recorded it. You can hear it just barely, its right before that loud thunk. I think the thunk was the vacuum, but it takes just a couple seconds before it does it and you can hear it. Like i said this inly happens after it has set a couple days. It does not do it everytime i start it. Im in the cab so its not super loud. Next time i will get it under the hood, disnt even think about it, gah

How long does the noise last? Does it occur for 1 or 2 secs about 25 secs after you start a cold engine?

Its last about a second, if that. Its not the vaccum noise. That still happens. Its a dofferent kind of noise.

Not sure what you mean by vacuum noise? Sure you are not hearing the air pump doing it's check that occurs 20-25 secs after you start a cold engine? Valve clatter noise usually lasts longer than a sec.

If you have a 4.0 Liter V6 you don't have hydraulic lifters.

No its not 20-25 seconds after it starts. Its about 3-5 seconds after i start it. The vaccum noise is a weird like sucking noise then a thump. This is completely different kinda of a noise.

My 2015 does the vacuum noise just right after start up and then followed by like a pop which could be the thump you're talking about because it's the valves shutting.

I havent drove it anymore, so im letting it set, to hopefully catch the noise again. Knowing how my luck goes, it wont do it whil im recording it.
