To make along story short, I ended up rear ending a truck pulling an enclosed trailer that stopped short. (See Pics )

So insurance doesn't send anyone out due to Covid.. (im thinking to myself trucks outside nobody else is around why not send adjuster) ANyway, they tell me to take pics of the truck and send it.. they cut me a check to get it fix.

I look up shops find one with great reviews, so i have it towed there. I stopped the the shop yesterday to sign the paperwork so they can work on it. NOW here's my red flag....

I see my truck i park next to it and the workers are outside looking at it.. I get out and say this is my truck im here to speak with the owner to sign paperwork. The guys goes Boss man said truck is probably totalled, if so Ill buy it off you it's a nice truck.. I'm like Um no thanks id be doing that myself if it is totalled... Then they guy has signs all over not responsible for stolen items.. I ask the guy what he will do to ensure that rims and the tire gate don't get stolen. He say's he has camera's... that's not good enough for me... I made him agree to keep it inside.. However my spider senses are still going off about this place... There's no way its totalled, no frame damage Anyone experienced this.. Mines an 2006 access cab 4.0 6 speed.. 150k miles... I dont want my shit stolen I had fiberglass front fenders that both pooped off and broke why no fenders.
    (see pics)

Ultimately, it's insured. If things get stolen, insurance pays for it, though they can be a pain depending on who you have.

Probably not a good idea to post about shooting up a repair center, though.

Take it somewhere else. Also, your frame looks at least a little tweaked where the bumper mounts.

    Damn, that sucks man.

I have to ask though, how do you know the frame is still ok?

Is it not driveable? It looks driveable. Would just drive it home. That’s definitely not totaled in my opinion. That bumper saved you from totaling it looks like

I wouldn’t be surprised if the wheels were gone if you leave it there.

If you are not comfortable, take it somewhere else. Also, try not to openly threaten the life/safety of the auto shop employees, probably not a good idea with how people are handling stress these days.

Is the shop really not responsible for items stolen off the truck while in their possession?

Correct me if I'm wrong.. But I thought most of the time an aftermarket steel bumper like that is more likely to damage your frame? Seeing as how instead of absorbing the impact by crushing, it transfers all the energy back. So your frame could indeed be tweaked.

I would trust your instincts. I mean what’s more valuable than peace of mind right. I wouldn’t want anyone working on my truck who left me with an initial impression that I’m viewed first and foremost as a sucker. And what’s with the security issues? I get that life happens, but if a business can’t prioritize their customers’ property while it’s in their possession, that’s absolutely absurd. By the way I thought your Rambo comment was hilarious, and didn’t get a literal sense of you going postal... I don’t see why the panties are bunching up on that one, but the times, they are a changing.

I’m sure a lot of adjusters or industry ppl are going to tell you it’s totaled so they can buy it. It’s not in that bad of shape.

I would of just ripped off the hood and fenders and drove as it is. Who needs those things anyways

LOL at anyone who took that literal, but i changed it so you can feel safe :) I examined the frame and did not see any sort of bending. I'm not a professional but i can tell if something bent.
