Well that Sucks..........

Had my truck at the coin car wash, not for it, but cleaning folding tables for Thanksgiving.

Notice the inside of the passenger front tire had grease on it. Upon further inspection, found the sway bar link had given up and broke. And on it's way it sliced the CV boot.

Dang CV are under 40K old, just done when they did the frame.

Hence my post, anyone used one of the "boot repair" kits that are out there?

Sorry dude…I don’t know if there made like a Honda,but if they are take the axle out,remove the inner joint and slide it on…

 

Just get it rebooted. No biggie. Enjoy your turkey

 

I used a zipper boot repair kit on an 8 year old Civic that tore a boot on some yard branches. Had the car for two years after that before selling it, boot was still holding at the time.
Normally my advise is just replace it but it's a good short term fix. But keep tabs on it, a torn boot will ruin a joint pretty quickly.
That's assuming your just keeping to the streets. If you're off roading, all bets off...

 

Maybe look into getting some heavier end links... these are Overland Custom Design.

 

I would replace it with a whole OEM boot kit. The only problem is that the outer joint requires the inner joint to be removed, including the inner boot, in order to replace it.

So it's a bit of a hassle, grease gets everywhere, but at the end of the day you'll spend at most $50 and have new boots

 

Them some heavy duty ones and adjustable to

I've read elsewhere about the sway bar end links breaking and going through the cv boot and was just sharing what i did to try to avoid it from happening.

 

I was saying "show off" because your set up looks FANTASTIC. I'm jealous.

 

Fixed, got out lucky, sway bar was broke, r and r real easy. Boot was not ripped, but the bar caught the buckle on the outer boot and snapped it off so the clamp was loose. So, ran to NAPA got a new clamp for 3.54 and we are golden. I did repack the joint before putting the new clamp on.

Under 30 bucks all in, another win for a older beast,

 

keep an eye on that new clamp... I had trouble with it holding when i did mine and ended up using a special radiator type clamp made for those boots to get mine to hold.... have fun

 

Thanks, been checking and it still looks good. Made sure I got it in the groove fully upon clamping,,
