That's because it is  There is a plug on the rear of the mirror to power the dash cam.

Thank you so much. I have never looked behind the mirror. Guess I'm making some changes tonight.

Once again, visiting TW cost me money. Ordered the USB power adapter so I had it on hand if I decided to buy the camera....and then went back an hour later and ordered the Garmin Dashcam Mini.

Extra wire? Are you using a short 4" or 6" USB cable? I use a 6" because I wanted a bit of slack so that the aim of the dash cam wouldn't be dislodged every time someone adjusted the rearview mirror.

Is there another option or supplier for the mirror to dashcam adapter? Does $31 feel like an excessive price to anyone else?

Currently using the shorter (I think 4 ft) cable that came with the camera. I’ll have to get a shorter one for sure. That makes much more sense. Haha. Thank you!

I built two of them several months ago when it was impossible to buy them. The connectors are not cheap, and working with those tiny terminal pins is very difficult. $31 is a bargain IMHO. :spending:

I think you'll find that its money well spent! Everyone should probably think about having one.
Even some of the cheapo units now have pretty amazing quality.

I was looking for some other small dash cams for a lower price but nothing really stuck out to me as being this small with so many features. A lot of them came with LCD screens which is definitely not what I want with the thing being tucked behind the rear view mirror. Might just bite the bullet and go with the Garmin unit.

If it makes you feel any better, these dash cam minis are 190 in canada.

I want the convenience of a built-in display. I have a Garmin 56 in the Tacoma, and I just bought another for our new Armada. The camera itself is really compact in size. I haven't installed the one in the Armada yet, but I did also buy the Nissan compatible SimpleUSB adapter for it.

This is the driver's view of the camera. All you see is my custom mounting adapter to the truck's GoPro mount.

Yes it is garmin mini, nice quality. Sorry i dont have a link, i had this little guy laying around the house.
As long as it has mini USB on one side and USB on the other, it will work.
