Just saw this inexpensive camera on Amazon. It currently has a 21% off coupon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0895D965Z?th=1&psc=1

I couldn't find current draw specifications to see if it would work with the mirror dongle. It does have a small screen, so probable draws more current than the Garmin.

That would probably work but why not spend just a little more and get front and back cameras?
I can tell you for a fact this one works great with my dongle.

Read all the comments; didn’t see a definite answer. Has anyone installed the Garmin Mini Dashcam and used the Parking Mode cable and had issues with the camera Overheating, freezing up, and not shutting off? I just ordered the camera and parking mode cable, but wanted to see if this problem had been fixed before installing it.

I have the Garmin 66W and installed the Parking Mode cable a few weeks ago. No problems. When in parking mode only motion will turn the camera on. So right now 95% of the time it’s sitting in my garage so the camera doesn’t come on.

Cool. I’m wondering if they fixed something with a firmware update or something. I saw a few videos about it and read on a few different websites that basically when it went into parking mode and then you started your car later it would stay in parking mode, overheat, freeze up, and the only way to fix it was to remove power to it for a second.

could also just be an issue with the Mini dash cam.

Anyone who has installed the Garmin Mini cameras (front and rear); have you had a need for the polarizing lens covers? I’ve seen some reviews and people say they’ve needed them, but with the slope of our truck windshield I’m not too terribly sure I would. Don’t wanna order them and then not end up needing them

The front will benefit from it pending the time of day and at night with street lights (rain at night too). I've used them on my last 2 cameras and will get them on blackfriday for the newest ones.

Thanks for the info! Have you used the Garmin Mini Dash Cam by chance? If so, any feedback on it?

Well crap. Definitely not what I was hoping to hear. Out of curiosity, when you had the issue with it running hot and freezing, were you using the Parking Mode cable, or just straight USB? Also, was this recently?

Gotcha. I heard a few months back there was a bad batch of those connectors. Maybe that had something to do with it. I ordered my cameras from Best Buy and they just started their holiday return period so I’ll have until 1/16 to see if I have any issues with them. The other harnesses and parts are from Amazon, so if I have issues I can always return the parts there as well.
    Thanks for the info!

I had one in my last truck, left it in my work truck and some clown took it out when I was traveling (flight). I had not complaints and just ordered 2 for the Taco.

I may have already asked you, but did you use the Parking mode cable? If so, any issues with it not coming out of parking mode, overheating, and freezing up or anything? I read a couple reviews that said something about that.

I've seen the same complaint in TW and on reddit. I never bothered with the parking mode cable... I've thought about it, specifically for the rear when I have my shooting gear in the bed (diamondback cover) just as an extra feel good... but haven't jumped on it yet.

Gotcha. I got my two hooked up with parking mode today. Gonna prolly disconnect them for the night and then hook them back up tomorrow and do some testing. Don’t wanna waste $60 on cables if I’m gonna end up turning the parking mode off.

Installed the mini for 2 weeks now and always forget its there, but today I noticed that it gets super hot while recording. Any fix to this? If this continues I will probably be returning as this can’t be good.

From what I heard it’s suppose to get hot under normal use. However, I did read about an issue with them overheating with the parking mode cable installed. Are you using that or USB?

Just normal USB with the Dongar adapter. I will monitor over the next week and report back.

    Sounds good!

Honestly, I have a feeling all dash cams get pretty hot. I’ve been looking at getting one for a couple years now and every time I find one I read reviews and people mention them getting hot. I have two in my Tacoma; if they malfunction, or start to have issues, hopefully it happens in the warranty period. Lol
