Yeah.... Im with you, never been a fan of X country bicycle riding, now that their putting these motors on them it looks like a blast. In general I think "bicyclists" tend to be on the douchier side hence all of the elitist remarks from them whenever an E bike is brought up. Heres a great video demonstration of every one of them:

Do you think the Trek/Bosch powered eBikes are better than the Giant eBikes with Yamaha motors?

Do you have a local ebike store where you live? If so, you can give them a call. I myself have a Haibike Hard Four 4.0 and yes it was designed for kids but was converted for adults. I wanted a bmx size bike to ride. Stock it goes 12 mph but it is tuned with a speed chip, now 21mph.

I would say that Bosch has been in the technology lead for awhile now but when it comes to bike design between the two they are both as good as each other.

It's probably too much bike for your needs, but if I were to go the eBike route, I would take a serious look at the Rocky Mountain Altitude Powerplay.

The shop guys all say the Trek eBikes are top notch, and most of them dislike Trek.

Bulls Bikes is another brand to look at.

I wasn't a huge fan of eBike/pedal-assist bikes initially, but I'm starting to see their appeal and they look like a lot of fun. All of the pros say the pedal-assist bikes still require the same (or almost the same) effort, except you are able to climb faster/farther and climb obstacles you would never think was possible.

These videos speak to me. Having two small kiddos, working full time and having a lot of elevation gain on my local trails... These bikes would definitely help me maximize my time out on the trails.
