I drove Chevrolets and Fords until I purchased my Tacoma earlier this year. I'm in a rush and decide to go through an automatic carwash...I pull out afterwards and turn up the radio to hear nothing but static. That sucker ripped right off. I got to work and all my corworkers said "Duh, you have to take off your antenna." I have been driving for nine years at this point and I have NEVER taken off my antenna.

Lesson learned I guess. I'd like to find a replacement that I can leave on in all conditions. I guess the flexible, slightly shorter ones are the best bet here?

    Thanks gentlemen.

Make your own from a CB for just FM. I know there are kits to run your CB through your FM, but I wouldn't do it.

Yes and no. - The shark fin types are different for different applications. You need to read about the specific one you want,. Some of them have Bluetooth, TV, WiFi, GPS, Sat Radio, Cellular, and other various types of antennae and tech built into them. Can get costly quick.

I was thinking even more simple, like the stuby on the back of my wife's Rav4 or like the fin on my old BMW.

I never ended up buying one. I realized, that was going to use a roof rack and that would interfere with the reception of any of those frequencies. So I started looking into the film antennas.

These antennas are OEM spec and manufactured for BMW Mercedes Volkswagen and similar vehicles. If you took one of the Toyota OEM shark fins off and look inside, you would see how much room there is for additional Tech
