After reading through some of the posts in the jobs/career section... some unemployed... some just got a new job... it got me thinking. If I could do it all over again (career), what would I like to do for a living. So far I don't have an answer.

Another reason for surfing this section of the forum is I've been tossing around the idea of going back to school... but have had a hard time deciding what I would go back for (what area to study)...

So... Answer this: If you could do it all over again, what would you go to school for?

I look forward to your answers.

    Nathan

    ^ Productive.

I'd probably do the exact same thing. Business (Finance). Gives you a broader avenue of jobs to work with, and can pretty much be molded into any industry.

I'd also work harder at becoming fluent in Spanish. Like it or not, it's becoming a huge part of the US job market.

Engineer. Even if I had to go to Jr college. If it took 6 years and not 4 it still would be better.

Yeah, no. Obviously you've never done it.

Enjoy bleeding vaginas, vagina's with all sorts of wierd shit growing out of them (yeast infection, anyone?), watching that thing stretch 5 inches while a baby pops out, doing all your work through a "tunnel," shoving up 10-inch long instruments to scrape out the uterus, or having 1 or 2 helpers holding the thighs up and out of the way so you can get your face up in that snail trail of the 400lbs woman.

Believe me, it's not all 22 year old hot girls looking to get finger-banged.

As for my job... I'd probably have just gone to paramedic school and become a flight medic. A lot more adrenaline than my current job. Better hours too.

If i could go back and do it all over again, i would have found a way to be accepted into the air force academy..if that didn't work, B.S. In Biology, M.S. Environmental Sciences, PHD in something to do with the rocky mountain ecosystem...Spend my days lecturing to college kids about the mountains and their ecosystems...summers off to research, GA's to do work for me, tenure....has to be better than what i do now.

Trust me, it is not all roses and rainbows. Both of my parents are long-time teachers, and they both adamently state that it's nothing like it used to be. No Child Left Behind, all the extra standardized testing, etc have all made it next to impossible to really teach...not to mention in order to make any kind of decent money, you have to spend all those summers taking Master's courses and training seminars in order get extra certification. They both say that if you want to make good money, don't be a teacher, and it's a lot harder to really be good at it anymore.

Oh, and it's anything but free weekends. Grading, writing tests, etc. I lost my parents for a lot of weekends to that kind of crap.

I'd be a Wildlife biologist or some career field in Field/Wildlife Management.
Since I am on my second half of life (retired military) that is what I am working on doing right now.

I like my job but since we are playing...

I've always thought a semi-realistic dream job would be a writer for a car magazine...drive awesome cars and write about them.

Not taking income into account...other jobs I think would be fun...

The winding road I took was just what I needed. I'm happy wrenching on big boats. I did go back to school.
Good luck figuring out what you want!

Gorgeous school! I toured the AF Academy and started the application process at both there and Naval Academy. I ended up in the Corps at Texas A&M in the Air Force Branch. I wanted to be a pilot, opted out of contract before junior year (that's when you have to decide if you are going in the military upon graduation or not) due to there were no pilot slots available at that time. There ended up being a crap load of pilot slots due to a sudden shortage when I graduated so most of my buddies that were in my outfit are now flying. No regrets...wouldn't be married to who I am married to and have the kids I have had that worked out differently.
