Made a small box for a DC gauge and switch.

Getting better at this, but still managed to not get the switch centered visually. Didn't think about the gauge, and centered it with the cutouts. Good enough though.

Made the slide tray for the controller as well.

Saw a X1 carbon in person. I'm kinda impressed. Not sure about the cloud stuff, but it's quiet and the ams works pretty good.

Playing with infill to see what it does, used a yo-yo for this so I can feel the weight difference.
    https://www.printables.com/model/564789-basic-yo-yo
The black one is PLA with 60% infill. I used a hammer and block of wood to get it together and it works well.
Tried another in silk PLA, 80% infill and turned on the ironing.

Couple of things, the ironing wasn't worth it at all, maybe it's the silk.
And silk seems to be much softer/weaker. It easily broke pushing it together by hand.

doing a third in PLA at 80% infill to see if it goes together with a hammer again.

This might go in the back window of my camper. :D

I usually start my search on Thangs.com, which compiles from most of the known 3d file sites.

I do see a few sets of body armor there, it looks like most are charging 30 bucks for the files.

Ouch...although I'll pay for a set if that's the case (and you end up with free files for parts you can make/sell)

The scaling part would be the issue I think

It would probably require sending a test piece and seeing how that fits, and then scaling from there.

It looks like the whole build is going to be a project, haha.

    Man that's fucking awesome

It's just gonna be a little tricky cause I know from 1 year old to 1 and a half, it's hard to gauge how much he'll grow (from now to Halloween)

Edit: My first ever published creation. :)
    https://www.printables.com/model/858467-gm-window-crank-handle

Revisiting the window crank from before.
The PLA didn't make it two weeks. A second attempt with PETG made it a few days.
Looking at the original, there needs to be a ring for support.

Had to completely make my own design as the original files would not import to Tinkercad to manipulate, Worked out better anyway.
So the grey one is my creation.

You can see where the ring gives support to the handle. It flops around and breaks.

Much tighter now. Turns smooth with no deflection and cracking.
Gonna roll with the PLA again and see how long it lasts this time.

    Yeah.
Pretty cool. I'm surprised the PLA lasted longer than the PETG. That may be because PETG flexes a bit more. ABS would be ideal, but heck, you could print like 5 of them in PLA for a couple of bucks and just keep replacing them.

My thoughts too. The PETG made immediate cracking sounds upon installing, and only made it a few days, literally rolling the window down and up less than 6 times. The PLA makes no such noises. When it broke, it just sheared off clean at the base, prolly due to lack of a support ring.

Mod list... Well, my paint is factory.
I printed some nut holders so that a could bolt my rooftop tent on from above, without needing to get to the nuts with a wrench.
I used square nuts and added some voids inside, perpendicular to the clockwise face corners, which causes the slicer to add walls. These walls help to resist the tightening torque on the nut. Worked perfectly.

Change your print direction, too. use supports and print at a diagonal or horizontal, the weakest parts of a print are the layer boundaries after all.

    Really appreciate the offer!

@Rock Lobster got me though; I can send you the file in case you happen to have a plasma cutter that uses a Hypertherm T45 consumable set though for your own use!
