Does anyone use a file to smooth out corners or inside something? Or is sand paper the way to go?

I swapped to a new PLA and this print came out a little tighter than the other one I did. The two pieces aren't snapping together like the first.

I have a set of needle files that I sometimes use I got at harbor freight. If the new filament making the part a little more tighter in fitment you can also try scaling the print slightly from 100% scale to like 100.1%+ till you get a nice fit again.

I'll give scaling it a shot. its a quick print, like 5-7 minutes so that would be an easy fix

Think PETG would be fine for an engine bay fuse block and relay mount plate?

I think it would deform. I'm finding that petg can't handle temps inside a hot car. I think thick asa or nylon would be the way to go.

Yeah I think I'll order up some ABS or ASA. I've been searching for aluminum panels but haven't found anything that I like, so might as well make something.

I'm wanting to build a plate for an Auxbeam panel, couple battery disconnects for dual batt setup, additional 6 port fuse block for ACC hookups, etc. I could make it out of steel or aluminum, but its a lot of cutting, drilling, OCD getting pissed because holes are off a tad, re-cutting, re-drilling, cussing, etc. Printing would be much easier and can look a lot cleaner than my home DIY metal fab, honestly.

I guess I could test print out of PLA and then send the final files off to get laser cut and formed.

Picked up a roll of Just Maker Petg for one print. Spent 3 hours trying to just get the first layer to do it's thing. In frustration, I gave up on the new machine and went to the Neo, just to see what would happen. The new machine had been very inconsistent with the Z axis.
After slicing for the Neo, it printed just fine, absolutely no issues of any kind.
That prompted the disassembly of the new machine. I had a new hot end on hand, and between that ( it was the nylon sleeve inside that was buggered up) and the proximity sensor being one turn out, it printed better than ever. Ran a test with the new filament and it was a success.
I think my new machine was assembled on a Friday afternoon.
    Neo printed.

All the flawed prints leading up to it. Really just trying different colors. The brown was a top contender, but that one was flawed where it shows, again the first layer.

The coal load turned out pretty sweet. I can't seem to find where the file came from. I just remixed it.

How old is that starter set loco? It looks immaculate.

That piece was my first one, I got it when I was six years of age. And it definitely shows 40 years worth of collisions, derailments, storages and moves.

I love this little loco. I've always wanted one of the Stainz models.
I think that one is fairly new, like somewhere in the last two decades. It has DCC on board.
That was an Ebay score from an estate sale. It was listed as non running and sold cheap for parts. Part number is 20212. Good luck finding any info on it, I haven't yet.
Turns out the power switch was just turned off. :p Everything works.

Amazing. I know my old No. 2 is way overdue for a rebuild, as is this guy:

    LGB+2017+orig+cat_c8c7711abecc1e0a8a99c71e24c8c08e1a18f0aa.jpg

They both run, but neither are achieving the pet-terrorizing speed that they used to.

I think my youngest motors were bought in 2006, they were MTS capable. 1960's style GE diesel in Santa Fe blue and a track cleaner. Everything else was bought in the ancient times of zero chips: the motor is either getting current or it isnt. The little Stainz is hiding between the boxcars, but it still stands, engineer and all.

    Nice collection.
These days I prefer the chip less models. Much easier to work on and run.
I have several On30 with DCC. Definitely adds a new dimension to a layout, but you need a large enough layout to make it worthwhile.
I spy a LGB wine barrel car on that back wall. I need to print a version of that one.

    What haven’t I changed?
My kid brought home his friend’s RC truck for me to fix because it had been broken for some time and they weren’t able to fix it. Upon inspection I found the battery pack was dead/bad and also the front LCA mount was broken.

    IMG_6585.jpg

I drew up the replacement pieces in CAD, but printed parts can be notoriously weak so I changed it into a double shear design and added threaded inserts so I can print different skids/bumpers for customization.
