Just working on getting PETG to print reliably, having trouble with layer adhesion, have excellent build plate adhesion though so that's nice. Think I just had my extruder temp a little low, I turned the part fan down a lot and turned the extruder up to 235C. Suppose we will see what happens next...

Enclosure will be key if you want it to be reliable, I still get flashbacks to those days of trying to get ABS/PETG to work right lol

I thought it was ASA and ABS that needed the stable heated environment? Well I'm sure I can plop a plastic tote over this thing later to try anyway.

My understanding (and I haven't tried yet) is that PETG needs to be dried for many hours before printing with it.

I've made sure to dehydrate it appropriately and store it in a dry box as well. It wasn't crackling or popping like moist filament does. As anyone who's ever been to Eastern WA can attest it is also very dry here, nosebleeds and chapped lips abound haha

    Yeah.
I think you are on to something -- I set my temp to 240, bed to 70, and cooling fan to 50%.

    What haven’t I changed?
Please tell me you laid down some glue stick or hair spray on that glass bed. I’m all about good bed adhesion but PETG hangs onto glass a bit too well.

    Do tiny parts count?
I had a loco that's a few decades old split a final drive gear. Parts no longer exist.
I added some more relief to the split and made a collar for it to pinch it back tight.. Was able to press the shaft back in with a vise.

Worked way better than the zip tie fix from a few months ago.:D

Why not just make a new gear? :anonymous:

Not sure how to do that, and not sure it would be any stronger at my current skill level. :anonymous:
But that will be the next step before throwing in the towel and buying a fleabay parts loco.

Picked up another P1P from a local guy here for $350! Can't wait to get it cleaned up, enclosed, and running!

    1. Build this out of PTEG

    IMG_8993.jpg

    2. Modify downloaded files to fit my application. (add, remove, resize a flange)

    3. Strengthen the support for a downloaded file AMS lite support broke

    4. Tinker/learn the craft at my pace

    5. Build my own speaker adapters

    6. Fab a new cover/shroud for my front camera

    Probably Fusion 360 or onshape.

Both have a personal license tier and are once you get the basics down you kinda just start learning the rest naturally.

Not 100% what you mean by that but if you do a extrude you can have it set as a negative value to cut down material

I can’t find how to select an area to modify. Right/left click chose a particular select tool?
