What material are you using? Did you use any interface material/filament between the support and the helmet or is it all the same material?

I had a 4 year old about 650g spool of overture PLA from my old printer i’m using. This seemed like a great way to use it up haha

I didn’t use any interface material, the model i used had supports already painted in and I couldn’t figure out how to set up an interface layer in bambu studio, on my list to figure out for the future. I have old spools of pla+, petg, and another pla that’d be great to just use as support material. Luckily it’s pretty dry where i live and they all seem OK. I popped this spool into my dryer and it was 15% after sitting unused in open air for a long time.

Gotcha. Was mostly asking because I've been using the mostly PLA for prints/supports and support material for the interface. Makes it so that it isn't switching between support/PLA every layer and only on the interface layers. Issue I'm having is the support interface layer is white and isn't breaking off cleanly, leaving white remnants on the print. Curious how other people treat the support interface and get a clean break.

I’m considering picking up a 3D printer but detailed knowledge is lacking. I’m looking at an Ender Creality 3V2, Bambu lab A1 or possibly P1P, or a Prusa MK4S kit. The Prusa model is a bit more than I’d like to spend but want something that runs with minimal fuss and is reliable. What would you recommend for a 3D printer and what should I kook out for? Thanks for educating me a bit.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
I won't recommend hardware to you due to lack of knowledge, but will say: prepare for damage to your credit card and the sudden increase to your electric bill may incur scrutiny from officials thinking there may be some kind of illicit activity.

Bambulab right now has the reputation for just hitting print and go. Creality and Prusa are both great, but have a reputation for being a bit more "tinkery" of a hobby than the bambulab stuff. My first printer I spent an equal amount of time tinkering with it as I did printing with it, which was fun, but it made the PRINTER the hobby, and not the printing, if that makes sense. I've only had my P1S for a few days so far, but almost zero tinkering needed aside from printing a poop chute and soon a lid riser.

Poop chute was the first decent sized print that I did and it came out flawless other than me painting the lettering wrong in the slicer (only did the outer wall of the green and it came out a little splotchy in one or two spots).

Up next for me is an AMS rack. Should only take 40 hours and 1.6 kg of filament...

My solution to a poop chute was purging my printers, seeing where the poop falls and putting a cut up Amazon cardboard box on a shelf below the printer so the poop just drops down a shelf and I dump it out every few months lol.

Top 20 or so layers started getting weird, but overall SO pleased. I was straight giggling. Perfectly fit my giant noggin. Printing the side pods and rear accent piece now, then need to figure out a mesh for the middle. A different version of it has one you can print and trim that i might try.

The top thing sometimes tends to happen when there isn't enough supports underneath to keep the filament in place, if you add a modifier in the slicer, place it over that area and adjust the layer height to something finer like .12 instead of .2 it will come out a bit smoother too!

    Real nice!

It was all done at .12. It came out of maker world with manual supports pre-painted, so i didn’t mess with it if i were to do it again i’d add the middle support in for sure. Still real pleased!

    Yeah.
My Flashforge Adventurer 5M Pro arrives today. I got the Aquila dialed in pretty well with a MicroSwiss direct drive upgrade, but I know it's just a matter of time before something else breaks on it. Figured I'd bite the bullet and move on from the bed slinger.

    Yeah.
(Replying to my own post, bad form, but eh)

Holy crap this thing is fast. And loud, seems like it could fly apart into a million pieces at times. The Aquila had a lot of fan noise, but not a lot of motor noise. I may have to just slow down my prints, this thing is scary. But, it's fast. I'm using HS PLA right now, so maybe the settings for regular PLA will be slower. It doesn't seem to affect the print quality, so that's cool.

It's nice being able to just send a print from the slicer.

Can anyone recommend the best bang for your buck place to buy PLA and or PETG? Any sales coming up that you know of would be good too!

I've been trying to figure out a "best source" too.. basically what I've read is it's all fine these days? Overture, esun, sunlu, elegoo,

I've used OVERTURE pretty regularly and never had issues, usually about $15/kg on Amazon. I just ordered some ELEGOO that should be here tomorrow to try. My next order will probably be eSun, they have PLA refills starting at $14 and 20% off with 6+ and a free spool over $100. Shoot I might put in an order today.. If I ordered 9 spools, got the 10th free, that'd be about $10/kg.

    Edit for links:

    https://esun3dstore.com/products/pla-refilament
    https://esun3dstore.com/products/epla-pro-hs

    Edit again:

Man, that's frustrating. They said starting at 13.99, but it's the spool that is that price, individual colors at $21. Well, ignore what I said above I guess.

If I'm around MicroCenter I prefer going there. They normally have deals and its nice to see the color in person.

otherwise its just been Amazon orders. i think its mainly overtune or eegloo or whatever.

i checked a target near my house but they didnt have anything. i would try best buy next, but amazon is just too easy.

We have a little 3d printing supply place in the local mall that I like, but I get Overture online if I am impatient or they don't have what I need.
