I have a 2002 3.4L V6 extended cab with a manual transmission as well as about 200,000 miles on it, should I supercharge it and if so, what do I need to supercharge it?

There are a lot of threads on this topic already. I suggest searching for them and reading up on it.

That was my first thought too. My second thought was a pair of hands that had fingers to manipulate the search bar.

No but seriously. Those 3.4L engines are solid runners. That being said, no engine is exempt from making sure things are looking copacetic before throwing a blower on it. Making sure things are copacetic would entail doing a static compression test on it and making sure you are at least 160 psi on all cylinders. A 20 psi variance and I wouldn't even touch a blower at that point as you are just opening the door for further valve or piston rings leakage. A dynamic compression test wouldn't hurt either. You don't want to vary more than 5 psi on the dynamic test, otherwise, don't touch a blower on that either.

Honestly, I'd do an afr gauge first, stock is just fine if it is in working order with the stock pulley. It can tell you if your pump is not doing enough.

With An AFR Gauge you will ALWAYS know the health of your fuel system.
It can be added later or you can do without and never know your AFR numbers.

    Maybe.

At a minimum you need a compression and leakdown test to determine some rudimentary health of the engine. An oil sample to Blackstone labs would be on my list of deciding factors as well.

    Has the clutch been changed?

Has the diff and connecting driveline been well maintained?

Are you willing to step up to the cost of premium fuel?

All things to consider. No use in painting the house if its full of termites.

Besides the readings provided by others above, I'd suggest at least a good friend who was experienced or very mechanically adept. 2 sets of eyes/hands are very useful on initial projects like this. Of course the other option is paying a pro to do it.

In terms of parts, you need

Yeah, as these other guys have said, you really should ensure that your engine is in tip top shape first.

Not only will a properly maintained engine maximize the power/efficiency that it's already capable of (might even be enough that you don't feel a supercharger is necessary), it will ensure that it's least likely to blow up when you start forcing more air/fuel inside it.

My 3.4L certainly isn't a powerhouse, but it's got enough power that I don't feel throwing a few grand at it is necessary. It does what I need it to do.

Reminds me of the "my 4x4 doesn't corner nearly as well as my 5 series did, should I add a rear sway bar?" type threads.

I agree 100% with this. My truck had 260k on it and ran great so I decided to throw a blower on. Turns out it was just an act and shortly after putting the blower on I started having head gasket issues, so I had to pull the blower back off so I could keep driving it.

If this isn't your daily I say go for it, but if it is, I'd want to do a leak down test, and compression test at a minimum to get an idea as to the health of the motor. The last thing you want to do is spend big money and then just have it cause problems on your daily. But with that being said, you should absolutely supercharge it if everything checks out, you'll fall in love with your truck all over again!
