I've just purchased my first Tacoma 4X4. It's a 2011 double cab 4L V6. When I had it into my Toyota dealer for an oil change I inquired about a faint tick I've been hearing while the truck is running. They said it was normal to hear that ticking in cold weather. I can't remember what he said it was now but I wasn't satisfied with his answer. Anybody know what it might be?

ABS on snow and ice is number one, the worst system I ever had but I partially blame that on a proportioning issue. Slightly under powered for the road and MPG's could be a couple points better. Offroad it's plenty of power. Weak rear springs that I for see having problems with in the future. I love this truck and will always own one but the ABS is really bad on slick roads, and yes I have been driving on slick roads my whole life, I know how.

The temperature gauge doesn't have numbers on it. No oil pressure, volts, amps gauges.

Hate to gripe, but I agree, this seems to be with many new vehicles

No stock hood struts or locking tailgate. Bad stock tires. Those can all be fixed with aftermarket so no big deal. The one that cannot is the doors and door handles feel cheap.
Other than that, I love this thing. I'm a recently converted jeep guy and I have no regrets about the change.

Oh well it'll still outlast most of the rest of the newer vehicles on and off the road.

From my experience and what i've read/been told/learned, it's an issue with the valves, tensionar, or lifters.... i cant remember the full explanation of it at the moment (considering i've been up 36hrs w/o sleep) but it is a common issue with them. Had a 99, a 04, and now a 13 and they've all done it.
[someone correct me if i'm wrong]

Yota's tick haha! But mine is ticking and it is probably time to change my bucket shims on my 3.4. The service manger and techs at my local dealership say they are not worried about the faint sound at the moment, say i shouldn't spend the money yet

The more I study your "Option Packages", the less sense they make. These are trucks, not soccer mom vehicles. For example, where are the heater side view mirrors and what's with the chrome versions of same?

The people that by these are usually early risers that have to deal with over-night frost. Whomever the geniuses that compile the pertinent accessories for these working vehicles apparently haven't a clue as to the folks that buy them. The impracticality of the "Packages" is astonishing.

And when you deteriorate a "Package" by arbitrarily removing elements year to year, you should base the changes on practical premises, not penny saving economies.

I should feel that pleasant "new car excitement" when I climb in this thing in the morning. Now all I think about is what is missing. Ironically, the more fancy the "Package", the less useful the truck. The Limited Package is essentially a small truck in lipstick!

If you ran power to the side views for turn signal lights, why not heat them?!?.

I paid a lot for this truck, but I still have to worry about someone stealing my tailgate. I will be buying a lock for the hinge tomorrow.
