Hey guys. Thinking of moving from California to South Carolina. Looking at Inman. But curious what people do there for work.

@pahaf That is a pretty broad question. I recently traveled to SF and LA twice for work. While it is different, I don't think what people do for a living is that different.

I live in Charlotte and jobs range from software engineering and business jobs to all sorts of blue-collar work.

    Why Inman?

I’m trying to find a job that will pay about $20 for start. Just to cover expenses in the beginning.

Inman because we have friends there but they are truck drivers and I don’t really want to do that.

I would look in that are for manufacturing jobs. I have known several people starting between $15 and $25 an hour here. Depending on what your experience level is.

I am in Charlotte too. I just quit/semi retired from auto claims adjuster. I know auto claims is a huge field to get into if you have automotive and college background. Otherwise I always hear everyone is hiring, but I am not looking for a job myself right now. Body shops in Charlotte are always hiring as well.

Not much in Inman thats for sure.
    Not to far from greenville.
I think BMW is hiring temps at $18hr.
    G.E. hires temps at $15hr.
There Bosch, Michelin, and a few other large manufacturers.

I wish I had gotten into it earlier, after high school I went into the military.

Our company doesn’t have an “Apprenticeship” , however they will train you and set you up for success as will most companies.

I started out about 6 years ago working in the warehouse, and in about 6 months worked my way to a service tech and was out on my own.

They provide training and classes and such.

I’m not near Inman , but located in Hilton Head and a lot of companies are hiring down here.

Thanks guys. I’m liking the input. Makes me more confident moving there. I work in the medical field here in Cali, inventory specialist. But seems that doesn’t pay as well on the east coast so I’m looking at new options

Assuming you are a little younger, I would look into trades like Commercial HVAC or Electrical. I expect to see serious labor shortages in those areas in the coming years.

I do engineering for a brake manufacturer.

Plenty of jobs around you could find paying that. Definitely look into manufacturing jobs, assembly etc. BMW is a popular employer in that area.

Edit : Have you ever visited the Carolinas? It’s a totally different world than Cali…
