I have an 02 Tacoma with the 3.4L and I was wondering if the newer 4.0L Tacoma engine would fit in the compartment for the 3.4? Would the performance increase, if any, be worth the time and money? How much work would I have to do to get the 4.0 to fit and work properly?

Hmm, honestly I would look into getting a supercharger and cold air intake before I'd consider replacing the whole engine. I assume they make them for the 3.4L

They do but I hear that the TRD supercharger for the 3.4L engine doesn't work properly and TRD even came out with a 7th injector mod to make the supercharger work better and even after that, it STILL doesn't work the way they are suppose to. I didn't think about the C/A. What mods can I do to get the most performance increase without having to do a BIG change or spend a lot of $ on a supercharger?

X2 on the SC. It's bolt on.

Changing the motor is possible, but you will need a harness, transmission, ecu, new driveline, one parakeet, the air box, two slices of velveeta cheese, time, money, and 6 cases of beer.

Hahaha. So pretty much forget the idea of an engine swap...

I would suggest keeping your 3.4......honestly the 4.0 isn't worth the time, labor, and expense to swap...our motors should be plenty enough to do most any wheeling esp with the add-on mods(intake, exhaust, dpm, etc...)

The cheaper performance mods I'm hearing available are C/A intakes, throttle body spacers, headers, exhaust, and dpm's. Are there more that I haven't listed?

c/a intake - ineffective compared to deckplate
    TBS - ineffective/waste of money

DAMN!!! I bought a TBS for my truck hoping it would do something. The only reason I havent put it on is because my throttle cable isn't long enough, and I've been lazy.

That's weak. I wish I was a part of this forum before I bought it. Well, since I have it, should I throw it on anyway?
