IIRC, manaul says something like "use 91 octane for maximum performance". But since the engine has VVTI it should adjust for any of the normal octanes without pinging. That's the whole point of VVTI if I understand it correctly. Not like other cars that are set for 87 (and can't benefit from higher octane) or are set for 91/93 (and knock with lower octanes).

With that said, I ran 89 for a couple months after I had 30,000+ miles on it using 87. Slightly better power, acceleration and mpg, but the cost/mile worked out to be the same as with 87. So I was spending more money each time at the pumps for just enough extra miles per tank to make the cost/mile about the same. I'm thinking it was between 10 and 20 miles extra per tank. Not a whole not, and not worth paying extra each time at the pump.

I normally use regular gas but do put premium in on occasion.

I use regular most of the time. But every few months I try to put in some premium.

Regular user here. Someone's going to have to get all science-y on me to convince me that there's a benefit to higher octanes. There's more energy in lower octanes, and since my Taco doesn't run rough on 87, that's what I use.

Mid grade is my choice, it will run just fine on regular unleaded but i feel i run better on a higher octane but it just might be all in my head

Over 3 yrs tried all grades for a time. Motor pings on hills, acclerateing, and not as smooth running when 87 in the tank. Settled on 89 in a hurry, but usaully when gas light goes on... 9 gal of 93, and 9 of 87= 90 octane. Often its same price or cheaper 'making' 90 than to buy 89.

60 or 61.80 (for 18 gallons), worth the little extra imo.

None. Stock with options - Roof rack, running boards, hood scoop, etc.
How much is a gallon if 93 octane?

We used to have 92 octane in California a while back ago.. Now its just 91 for premium

After trying 87, I have setteled on 91. It gives enough HP and MPH to pay for its self.
93 would do no better. When I get it blown the 93 may help.
My question is with these Klinton, Gore freaks, how long can we get real gas?

Usually the price structure in the Northeast is Vs. 87 regular, 89 .10 more. and 93 .20 more.

    FOr example
    3.25
    3.35
    3.45

Have you noticed that some of the stations are getting rid of all but 87? Or some of the new stations open up carrying only 87? Wonder what that's all about... Too expensive to stock? Not enough customers buying it? Makes me wonder if some of those stations are gonna go under if prices keep going up...

No havent seen an 87 only station yet, but wouldn't surprise me. But with all the turbo/supercharged/luxury/performance cars out, they all need premium... still a good sized market out there.

If I don't have any other options, and I need gas, I don't care what I put in there. I could understand some gas stations in the middle of nowhere that would only carry diesel and 87.

None currently, but I would like a better sounding exhaust and perhaps a cold air pack and some color coded step bars
Everthing you read about putting higher octane and really not receiving any benefits from it goes a long ways. Overall you should follow what the manufacter suggest, in my case my 06,V6 taco says 87. Which I use, I don't think there is much gain unless your mod's require higher octane fuel...just more money in some one elses pocket.
Does no harm, of course ..... to spend more money, nor does it harm the engine. I am sure somewhere out there, there are test reports on this subject.'

The ECU justs retards the timing with 87. Won`t hurt the engine. It may carbon it up.
    Come on; 10 to 1 and 87?
An SC calls for at least 91.
What happens if you can`t get it?
Or worse, they put white liquer in your tank instead of your gut?
Mark Twain would say, whoever said this was close to gas was a mighty poor judge of distance.
I know; the usual suspects will not understand this. Guess what? It is your loss.
    Read a book.

Whoever called it "near beer" was a mighty poor judge of distance?

What's your problem with all the "usual suspects?"

I've heard that they make the mid grade fuel by mixing low grade and premium!!!

I was wondering what fuel to use too, and when I heard that, I did'nt really like it much!!

I have a month with my truck and I am putting 87, and I am still wondering if I should change to a higer grade???

My Dad told me that mixing fuel at the pump results in the lower grade.
I would think that the octane would be rasied, but my Dad ought to know.
