Naw...You coulda said "I don't like" pretty much anything and I woulda asked you the same question.
You opinion is handy- but if it's just because you don't like it and you don't really have a reason behind it- I take that into account too...

I have a SIG SP 2022 .40 and a 3" XD .40, I love both. The XD is perfect for carry, and fits perfectly in the center console in the cut out with the net. I keep my SIG in the house. I love the way it fires! I have fired a few different hand guns, since I am a member at my range, and can rent guns for free. The SIG has just about the lease amout of kick out of all of them. The glock angle like was said prior, does take some getting use to. It almost feels like you are pointing your hand down to aim straight. It is supposed to help with the recoil, which it needs because Glocks have a pretty strong recoil. I would have to say SIG, XD, then Glock. Just my 2 cents, you need to shot for yourself to make a good decision.

    First gun?
    Unfamiliar?
    No question...a 22.
    Preferably a revolver.
You really have no business buying a para-military handgun in a centerfire round.
Everyone should own a 22 and everyone should start with a 22.
Learn the basics, then worry about a bad-ass 15rd semi-auto.

I like the XD!!! I prefer 40 cal. but 9 mm are generally cheaper. If your price range is lower go for a S&W sigma. Heavy trigger pull but a very good gun.

I tried a Glock and and SA XD. I loved XD and ended up buying an XD9. I have never had a single issue with it. Another model to consider is the Beretta PX4 Storm. I have that one in a .40. They come with multiple back straps that make it almost a custom fit for your hand.

Now if you really want to spend some money, go look at an SA EMP. Don't have one but REALLY want one. Nice for a CCW.

If I recall correctly it was to help correctly align the wrist/arm because the bore axis of the Glock design sits so low in the hand...compare a Glock pistol to say a Ruger P89 side by side, with your trigger finger indexed along the frame of the gun pointed straight ahead and imagining a straight line that is your barrel, the "gap" between your finger and the barrel is smaller in the Glock v.s the Ruger. This similarly lower bore axis exists in 1911 style pistols, the CZ-clones, the M-9 pistols. It is a part of what makes them popular with IPSC competiors for recoil management and faster follow-up shots-seems to have less mechanical advantage for the muzzle to flip.
That and short reset triggers :D.

P.S grip saftey on the XD was a necessary evil for importation points on the original design i think.

(long winded, but i love talking guns) I think the important part of your question is that this is your FIRST gun. Don't go buy a match grade kimber 1911 for 1,500 dollars - you're not ready for that. Remember the first time you tried to get your dick wet? Didn't go like you planned did it... But you learned a lot from that first girl, and other girls down the road were all the happier for it. Your first gun is going to be the same way. Your opinion is going to change as you develop a better taste for weapons and your skill level changes. Most everybody who owns handguns has a glock, many bought it as their first weapon. Pretty simple reason for it: they're cheap and reliable, and everybody else has one too (meaning aftermarket parts are easy to come by). All the magazines from a glock work in glocks of the same caliber too. So if you've got a primary and a secondary that are both glock .40 smith and wesson - the magazines will work in both interchageably. It was my first handgun, and many other active shooters I know did the same thing. They all still shoot their glocks and some even carry it, and all of them swear by it as a great first pistol. Your next big question is caliber. .45 ACP rounds get pretty expensive as you start buying thousands and thousands. Whoever gave the advice for a .22 revolver? That's pretty sounds advice. Your learning curve is going to jump through the roof in the first month of shooting. Your stance, your grip, your preferences, etc - all going to change soon. A cheap first weapon will allow you to make a much better decision down the road. It'll also get you onto the range, where other people with varying weapons might let you squeeze a few rounds (it's a great place to make friends). And as an active shooter, I still get out the .22 revolver pretty often - they're a ton of fun to shoot, they're really accurate, rounds cost next to nothing, and you can teach quite a few other people to shoot on it too. (teaching weapon safety and good practices is another conversation, but keep in mind you have an obligation to educate others as well) Stick with something simple and cheap to start with, I'd even go with a small caliber weapon. Then in a month or two when you can shoot better groupings, have a feel for your own style, and have the money saved, drop the money for a glock 22. Remember, this is your first weapon - not your primary conceal carry weapon. There will be others to follow, you can custom tailor those guns to do whatever you want. Go generic and cheap to start with, you'll be glad you did in the end. And besides, you can never have too many different weapons.

My vote would be for an HK but you really need to shoot a couple and find what is comfortable for you.

My recommendation for a first hand gun would be a .22 revolver. You can pick up a used .22 revolver for under $200.00. For less then $20.00 in ammo you can spend hours at the range practicing safety, safety and more safety. Learn to safely load and unload. Learn trigger control. For $20.00 you can pick up a box of 500 to 550 rounds of ammo. After you become familiar with the gun and gun safety try out the larger caliber revolvers or pistols at the range. Most everyone that owns guns owns at least one .22 revolver or pistol. No matter what gun I take to the range one of my .22’s always makes the trip. If I’m having a bad day with my 9mm, .38/.357, .380 or even pocket .25, I can always count on my .22 to make me smile. IMHO

I've owned damn near all of the well-respected guns at one time or another. I can say good and bad about any of them.

Go to the shop, hold one by your side, close your eyes, raise the gun and open your eyes. Whichever one naturally lines up your eyes with the sights is the one to buy. If more than one are equal, buy the one with the better trigger.

Forget about looks!!!! If you ever NEED your gun, neither you or the perpetrator are going to give a flying fuck what it looks like.

Forget about price!!!! If you can't afford the perfect one, save up for it. You can go cheap, but not to cheap. Go any less expensive than Taurus and you probably won't get a reliable gun.

Bigger bullets are not necessarily better!!!! If you're recoil sensitive, you could have a bazooka and still manage to not kill the bad guy because your flinch is so bad.

Do not rule out revolvers!!!! They may not be as sexy but they're as reliable as a tractor whereas some semi-autos can be as finicky as a Ferrari. Just because everybody uses a semi-auto in the movies does not necessarily mean you should too. I for one actually shoot revolvers better.

Go to the range and shoot a lot!!!! :quickdraw:You should go to a range that rents guns and try out several before you buy.

Welcome to the world of gun powder. The smell of sulfur is almost as nice as the smell of tuna.
