I was taught that science is to be based on observation. Much of this global warming (now climate change?) is based on selective picking of data.

I want a clean planet but I don't want Americas pockets picked to be spent by phony environmentalists.

    CFL's suck . You're right that LED's are the best , I have dimmable 2700K LED bulbs , they are awesome .

Incandescent bulbs provide heat while giving light which is actually beneficial in a heating climate . Our local utility did a study that show if all customers went to CFL bulbs , that electrical consumption would actually increase because of the loss of heat output from the bulbs would have people turning up their electric heat to make up the difference .

in my experience, ..CFL's have been pretty good (stay away from the super cheap brands ;))... i have them on my exterior lights too, haven't had any problems w/ them through summer/winter cycles..

... the heat produced by incandescents can be a benefit in some cases, as you say, ...but i'd assume that your furnace and other heating systems, by design, would be better at delivering heat...

CFL's are crappy bulbs and have the added bonus of containing mercury which adds a whole other level of problem when they go to a landfill and end up in the water table .

I'll find a link to the utility study for you when I get home .

... i don't totally disagree w/ you, ... i mean, they are kinda crappy compared to (the newer) LEDs, .. but incandescents kinda suck too, no?... :p

I am pretty sure "most " people agree the earth is heating up . Observe the crazy weather we have been having. More snow in winter and more rain the rest of the time(except Texas), polar caps shrinking dramatically. Even the far right side is now admitting it is happening. The only debate left is, what is causing it and can it be controlled.
America can't solve the problem alone. A global effort is needed.

I have a master's degree in science, the earth has been heating and cooling for millions of years. That's why the dinosaurs are no longer. Wake up people they are lying to you to enforce their laws on you so they can make more money. Look at ethanol for example it has done nothing but drive up the price of gas and every other food source on the planet. while driving down your MPG's. It takes more ethanol to be burned at a higher temp. to create the same combustion as Dino. Oh yeah, it also costs more per gallon to produce the ethanol now. Simply because the price of corn has risen 600%. Ask anyone with a small motor or boat motor what has been happening as a result? I'll tell you... Their motors are burning out, gumming up, and ceasing to run. MNost people have to have them rebuilt or scrap them costing thousands of dollars and resulting in less leisure time fishing or riding or mowing lawns etc. What did the EPA do? Disregard all of that and add another 5% ethanol to gas. It will soon be 15% ethanol in your gas. Wait til you see what happens then.... What a friggin joke!

totally agree with you on that...people should wake up and stand up for all those abuses coming from the corporate greed machine...

hope my writing was good...some people accord more time at making fun of it instead of having smart adult conversations:p

Btw; it is new to me about the smaller engines and the higher burning/more consuption factor...nice to know

I'm going to opt out of the academic dick measuring myself.

Once again, the summarize this stuff in a relatively digestible bite: "Global warming" and the recommended political changes from people with a heavy interest in the "phenomenon" are mainly motivated by money and misguided world views.

As Paul said before, there's nothing wrong with reducing changes we make to the environment that make the environment more toxic to us. We do however need to make sure we don't collapse civilization as we know it while we do that.
