By December, they all be saying it is way too freaking cold.
Unless you live in the south. I'm about ready to sharpen the chain saw and go get my few cords of firewood. Without fail it snows here in October.

Oh I know. I was raised being told that we were all going to die from the impending ice age.

3 years very long term to go from mild to hot. Call me on my death bed and we'll see where we are, okay?

Okay, I can't keep this in anymore.

Yes, I subscribe to number 3. I've done more than my fair share of research and the conclusions are quite frightening. There are lots of reasons why. In summary it is because most of the reports and data I have read, studied, reviewed, etc., indicate an extremely high likelihood that we are the root cause. Will I see much change? Probably not. But my son's generation will likely have a rough time of it.

One of the things that bothers me most about the whole global climate change thing is the crazy game of Russian roulette we are playing. See, I also subscribe to the precautionary principle. The precautionary principle states that if an action or policy has a suspected risk of causing harm to the public or to the environment, in the absence of scientific consensus that the action or policy is harmful, the burden of proof that it is not harmful falls on those taking the action.

If we anticipate and address climate change now, it will be relatively painless at the cost of approximately 2% annual global GDP. And these costs are monies invested in things like energy efficiency, energy security, etc. Things that increase overall economic efficiency. If we are wrong and climate change is not happening, then we have a more resource efficient nation.

Conversely, if climate change is occurring and we do not mitigate it, we are facing costs of nearly 20% annual global GDP to deal with the negative consequences. Things like droughts, food shortages, extreme weather, rising seas. This math is enough to convince me as, it turns out, I have some fairly conservative perspectives when it comes to how money is spent. I'm cheap.

    A few other considerations:
    The math: http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/global-warmings-terrifying-new-math-20120719

A change of heart (sort of) by one of the Koch funded researchers: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/blog/2012/aug/03/scepticism-climate-study-richard-muller

    Obligatory charts: http://grist.org/news/july-2012-the-hottest-month-ever-in-five-charts/

PS: Denial does not make that which is scary go away.

PPS: The extreme winters have been forecast by climate investigators for years. Big snows are a result of extra moisture in the atmosphere. Also, there is good evidence that the winters are becoming more severe due to a combination of ozone depletion and tropospheric heat gain (a warmer atmosphere).
