Shoot all three "primary" calibers and don't lie to yourself. What do you shoot most accurately with?

Caliber doesn't mean a damn thing if you don't hit the guy...except for the collateral damage you might cause. So give yourself the absolute best chance possible to hit what you're aiming at. And train. Train a LOT. With modern hollowpoints, 9mm, forty, and .45 are all the same. All that "stopping power" nonsense got started with ball ammo and stays with ball ammo.

Right now, honestly, you don't know what you're partial to other than fuzzy feelings and inexpensive ammo. And I can't blame you on the latter. But if you're going to carry a firearm in self defense you owe it to yourself and everyone around you to do thorough homework first.

In contrast to Tiger, I can't stand Glocks and as soon as I tried a couple XDm guns it was obvious I had found my carry pistol. It was also obvious that I should never, ever try to shoot .40cal at anything smaller than a medium sized shed (hyperbole, obviously, but you take my point).

I typically carry an XDm in 9mm because that's what I'm best with, bar none, when it comes to close-as-possible training (i.e. competition shooting). I have a .45 I carry when the 9 is having something done (new sights, for example). I don't own a .40 and probably never will because I'm obviously not meant to use that round.

Ditch the "I like .45" mantra. If you shoot it best, great, carry it all day long. But again, be honest with yourself. This stuff matters.

It doesn't matter much when you're required to carry 45 on your specialty unit. Kinda have no choice.

But for civilians, definitely have a choice and chose what works best for you

Truer words have yet to be spoken.

As a firearms instructor for my department, I have to make everyone shoot well enough to qualify with the exact same guns using the exact same rounds. Some people have no issues and don't take a second of my attention. Others struggle every single range. Now, sometimes officers bring in their own weapons to shoot at the range. It's amazing to see someone who is less than perfect with their issued sidearm be pinpoint accurate with a gun of their choice, and vise versa.

Test everything, and don't be afraid to change your bias if you find something that works better than you expected.

300 rounds of 9mm and a BCM Mod 1 grip that is being returned. I don't know how anyone uses plastic grips anymore.

I wasn't aware they sold them in anything smaller than a case. Interesting.

Finally got the barrel off my 700, I'ved seen welded stuff come apart easier. So now I need a new one, Any recomendations? Around 1-10 or 1-11 twist .308 probably 24-26" depending on twist. Looking for a light Palma or standard varmit profile. Should I go SS or CM? Been looking but most that offer a prethreaded short chamber say its like 5-9 months wait! really!

@ $0.06 per round I can't complain considering the CCI Mini Mags:
