My ammo got so heavy it was bending the metal shelving I was using so I built a custom oak shelf that I also anchored into multiple studs

I use cinder blocks and 2x12s.

Has held up well as a 3 level since about 2018. I would not want to have to buy 2x12s today though.

Visited my family near Columbia and scored 40 rounds of S&B brass 6.5 Grendel 100 grain FMJ at Sportsman's Warehouse. Little pricey at $24 per 20, but wound up being about the same as just buying 50 pieces of brass online when you include shipping, so I "bit the bullet".

Any of the Ruger models are good - Std, etc, etc. A Browning Buckmark. I even have an EAA Witness 9mm with 22 LR conversion kit that is decent. You could also go old school with a revolver like a Ruger Single Six, or a S&W double action. Lots of choices, but if you are looking for a common choice, I think the Ruger semi-autos are probably a good choice.

If you're looking for something cheap that you're planning to leave loaded, check out the Ruger Wrangler revolvers. Good little guns and you can usually find them around $200.
