My thinking as well, I went with a standard Palma and going to trim it to 24" since it's a 1-10. Wanted a 1-11 at 26" but this kreiger will do fine!

Eh, it was cheaper to buy the whole gun than just the receiver. Not using the stock stuff doing a custom build. 700's are fine and any manufacturer has their problems. Just look at all the custom actions and other manufacturers that copy the 700 action!

Yes their quality has gone down lately as has everything else, not disagreeing with you at all. Just saying I'm using only the receiver and that's hard to mess up, but yeah the stock and everything else pretty much sucks!

The QC of their receivers isn't removed from the QC of the balance of the rifle. In fact I would argue that the QC of the receivers IS the problem in the newer rifles.

Not sure why people think this about the 700. I have the newer varmint model in .308 with XMP trigger and bull barrel. It's so accurate that I usually choose heart shots on deer within 200 yards. I've killed 7 of them with it and never had to track a single one.

It's a pretty well known fact that Remington's QC has gone downhill the past several years and complaints are on the rise. That doesn't mean that they're all crap as evidenced by your good luck but it means that for my money I'm not willing to take the increased risk as compared to what they once were. I also know people that have had great luck with Hi-Point... doesn't mean I'm willing to chance it. Like I said, I'm not bagging on the R700 because I don't or haven't owned them. Quite the contrary in fact. I've owned numerous versions over the years and I too have seen a clear decrease in QC on the ones manufactured more recently as compared to those of years past. In a time when other brands are making their models better it seems a few aren't even able to maintain and it appears as though Remington fits the latter category as of late.

Not sure if you are interested in something that is super small and compact but check out the MIC holster. I have been using them on my Glocks since their inception. They work great and are easy to draw/conceal, not to mention they help prevent negligent/accidental discharge because the trigger guard is covered while you carry.

Comptac Minotaur is a good one. Kind of on the high side but I know several who carry a 19 in a Minotaur every day. If you have a bit of a spare tire, something like a crossbreed will be more comfortable because of the large leather backer between you and the gun.
