Does it make it better or worse when I spell it out that Saving Private Ryan came out 23 years ago? And that I'm in my 30's?

    Same crap everyone else got
I got a 4 month old girl. If I don't buy my guns now while she's not spending every dime I have, I won't be able to when shes older and I gotta pay for sports, prom dresses, weddings, etc haha

And researching gun stuff is definitely the best part of building one. And you learn so much

I have been in my shop dicking with mounting this scope all evening. I’ve never done a cantilever mount and I decided to dig into how to properly set eye relief. Ive always just stood up or set at a bench and moved it forward or back until it looked good on the lowest power. This dude had me prone and set at the highest power that made it way more difficult but I think I’ve got it. Optic is leveled and just need to finish torquing it now. As this was the first gun I’ve assembled I have learned a lot, at my age I should be a little ashamed of that but I’m not I like learning but not necessarily that I’ve been doing things wrong. I have been as anal as I could be with this assembly so we will see. The rifle shoots and functions great not to see how accurate I can be.

Don’t forget to run the reticle plumb. :anonymous:
Reticle cant at 5 degree error will have off at 400y 4 inches low and about about 4 inches left or right.

I plumbed the rifle then removed the top turret and placed the level there as the manufacturer suggested.

Optic is mounted. I installed the little clip things they sent with the rifle also I’ll have to see if I like them or not. I had them so figured why not

I grew up in Chapel Hill and purchase permits are why I got my CCW as soon as I turned 21. Orange County requires 2 signed notarized affidavits saying you’re not a criminal to get a purchase permit -total BS but lucky for you I’m pretty sure it’s the only county in the state with that requirement.

Also heads up you have to take a class to get your NC CCW permit and they were booked out months when my mom did her’s earlier this year. You might want to get signed up so you can take it as soon as you’re in state.

If I remember correctly you can get a stack of purchase permits at once in one trip to the sheriffs office to keep on hand for purchases. You don’t have to go get one every single time you want to buy.

No worries, I was joking with you. If you don’t know the stuff already then you’re not in a situation that requires this type of care.

But, you said you were into learning so…
Levels don’t work for precision, for mainly 2 reasons.

    1) Turret caps aren’t always square, and they surely aren’t square to the erector.
    2) The reticle in the scope regardless of plane is not always centered and is surely not the same from scope to scope. The etched lenses are put in by hand from most companies.

The reticle should be plumb to gravity. Just like that level on the end of the barrel doesn’t do anything. Especially if you cant the rifle in your arm and don’t realize it. All my long range rifles minus some work rifles are adjustable tilt in the stock. Fixed rifles I shoot on a cant as it’s compliments my natural point of aim, but the reticle is square to gravity. It’s a thing, I promise.

We don’t expect you to be lapping your rings or hanging a plumb line at 100y then run a tall target test.

I was into all that setting up precision archery rigs. A different world but same principles. I’d spend hours and days trueing everything and loved it.
I started this one by plumbing the receiver then clamped another level to the end of the Barrell matched to the one on the receiver as a reference for when the receiver wasn’t accessible once the mount was in place. I actually removed the upper turret so I could place a level on the internals which had a machined flat surface. Idk if that’s perfect or not but it was a truer surface.
I have a tendency to can’t a rifle when shouldered so I use the reticle as my reference to correct the rifle.
Maybe I’m just different but I thouroughly enjoy the work. I do always try and keep an open mind and explore new/ different ideas
