Yeah? Well, you know, that's just like your opinion, man.

I happen to like the look of worn ARs.

I'll look into the MEK. I've read that suggestion on ARF.

If I paint over it, then I gotta paint the upper to match and don't really care to do that.

That will take it to bare metal and remove the original finish which I don't think paint strippers will. So would rather not go that route unless I know i'm going to cerakote it or re paint it.
I'll look into Talstrip. It should be hard coat anodized under.
I'll look into it. about how long did it take for the paint to bubble and lift off?

I'll have to look deeper into this but I wouldn't think it would do anything to the anodized underneath.

Once the 13.9” is “finished” she’ll get painted also.

3-4 applications. I don't remember the time. Over an hour if I recall. It goes faster as the layers come up. Since the stuff isn't as caustic as air aircraft stripper, i expected it to take longer. I had to go thru clear coat as well. Pretty sure it'll take off yours fairly easily. Heck acetone will probably scrub a few layers if you have any on hand to test.

I do. I'll do a test area and see how it reacts. The paint seems pretty thin.

Probably less trouble than trying to remove all the paint. Unless you bead blast, you're never getting it all off anyway. Maybe I'm just saying this because I've been hard debating rattle-canning one of my ARs. Can't decide which or what colors I want to use yet though.

Well it currently has no plans for use. Got it as a spare b/c it was cheap so that's why I don't want to keep it painted or repaint it b/c I have no direction with it yet. Would rather it start as a clean slate whenever I do decide to use it.

I saw your other post about the collection. Have a couple lowers I've sat on for years and still haven't figured out what to do with them. Took me 3 years to build my Aero M5 lower into an actual rifle.

Mostly because I don't want to commit all the money I know I'm going to spend, but once I get started I catch the bug and go crazy on it.

I tend to spend quite a bit of time considering what I want before I make a purchase. I’ve never liked to have to repurchase things because I didn’t like what I got. When I make the initial purchase I say ok now take your time and then I just don’t listen to myself. Lol. We all like different stuff the challenge, mostly, is to figure out what will work best for me

They're just tools to me, and meant to get used and beat up instead of sitting in the safe collecting dust or getting babied like a range toy. Gives them character, and a safe full of all black rifles is boring anyway, but each to their own.
