Are there different treatments for other types of barrels chrome lined vs stainless steel?

I guess you can consider this a gun purchase. I built some shelves in the corner of my gun room. It’s slowly coming together!

I've got the itch to get a .308 bolt action rifle but I can't decide what manufacturer. My short list of possibilities includes some with recent rumors of QC issues. I always do my own gun smithing but I don't want any real issue(s) to mitigate with a new firearm. My short list of contenders is:

Remington 700 of some sort or Bergara - both of which I have heard had recent QC issues. Possibly resolved but how to be sure :notsure:

My Tikka .223 is a fantastic rifle so another Tikka feels like a safe bet.

Savage, Weatherby, Nosler M21, Ruger, Springfield. Any others? Use will be target shooting. I have hunted in the past but haven't in years. It could possibly be used to hunt in the future.

    Thanks for your opinions.

I'm looking to spend no more than $2,250 in total between the rifle, some glass, a bipod, and some ammo. That amount could go up if I really like something I see and feel.

Im happy with my bergara but I bought that years ago.

Out of those the Tikka, Ruger and Savage are the ones I dont hear many issues with.

The new remingtons should be ok, their quality coming out of bankruptcy has been good from what I have seen in their shotguns. However I have not seen their 700 rifles since then.

Bergara is good for the price, yeah you will hear of the occasional issue, but they make a bazillion of em. I have a B14 Wilderness in 300PRC and it is a very nice rifle for off the shelf. I have friends with varying models that all perform flawlessly and shoot well.

    Factory Hornady 225gr ELD Match.
Not bad for factory ammo and a brand new barrel. It will be a long time before I reload this caliber,, hell I might not even buy the dies, I might just borrow or load some on a buddy's press. I don't shoot a lot of rounds on this. My local range is only 400 yards and I don't get out to the 1k yard club much these days.

I'm down to three rifles right now. Tikka Tac A1, Ruger precision rifle, or Savage Axis II precision. Tikka has most of my favor right now but I am biased as I already own one I enjoy.

If anyone here owns these rifles please chime in with observations.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
With the pistol build kit enroute, I stopped today at the lgs to see if the lower was in...nope :(. Since I was there, I had to look around. Found just what I (didn't) need! A .22lr conversion kit w/1mag. I talked myself out of it.

Got home and that damned conversion kit is stuck in my mind...looked online...and now there's one inbound w/3 mags. Oh, and 1k rounds too, of course. :bananadance: It's only money, right?

TruGlo Tritium Pro night sight to be mounted on my Glock 19. I have these type sights on some of my other guns and I find I’m much more accurate with these sights than the regular sights that come with my guns, day or night. Also bought 3000 rounds of 9mm (not pictured)
