Just because I happen to have these handy, here's a 1:1 comparison of Hornady and Winchester packaging of the same caliber and count.

Are the huge foam inserts somehow cheaper than Hornady's little plastic frames?

I picked up the full set last week and the hunting scenarios are pretty accurate for feel except it seems the birds fly slower than what I see in the field. Love the replay where it shows your gun movement and hit area.

The sport shooting stuff is too much fun, I only wish there was some type of reload mechanism.

Especially that one! What will they bury you with now? You need that M1 when Charon ferries you across the river of death to the after life.

I sold a 6 digit Springfield last week. Still have an IHC. Want to buy a Bergara B14 in 6.5 creed but will probably take advantage of the stock market sale instead.

All of the ammo I’ve purchased for this .308 rifle. I’ve fired most of them but not all. This rifle has a 24” barrel and a 10” twist rate.

I do way more worst case scenario planning than I need to. Or so my personal history would suggest. Still, we never know what the future holds. If one were to choose personal defense rounds from this selection, what are your choices? Some combination or only 1 or 2? I know you can’t see all the particulars on each box but it’s a starting point. The rifle can wear 11 rounds not including the ten round mag and whatever is chambered.

I was leaning towards the bottom row. Off to the right is the match ammo so that’s out. Offset from those are lead free hunting rounds. Make the case..? Pun intended.

I’d think the Hornady critical defense would best where any over penetration is concerned. If you wanted max penetration, a monolithic copper bullet, or the Federal terminal ascent?

Which is the most accurate in the gun? Or at least semi-accurate (since you ruled out match ammo.)

As far as bullet design/construction, it really depends on your target. Most of today's hunting rounds do the job - somewhat differently, but dead is dead.

I agree with using what performs best. I haven’t fired them all but the ones I haven’t shot yet, I will soon. It seems to like the heavier loads best. Close to if not 180 grains.

They have been my go-to for years and years. The only deer I ever shot at and harvested dropped like a wet dishrag with one Hornady round.

Try an offering from Barnes. I have a rifle that prefers their VOR-TX. shot one buck with them so far and worked very well.

Mostly stock, just getting it to my liking, just happy to have had the taco and now my 4Runner.
Won an auction for 2 more 20 round mags for the prodigy last night and decided to end the night by ordering a magwell for it and cancelling my b/s/t thread and just keeping my extra holster, guess I will just get the torch or cutter out and mod it to fit with the new light.

In my experience the non lead ammo is never as accurate as the lead core ammo in my rifles. How much less depends on the gun but Its not enough to make a difference when hunting and its mandated where I hunt in California anyways.

A few agencies around here use the critical defense ammo in their patrol rifles.

I have personally used the outfitter, vor-tx, nosler trophy and precision hunter ammo on game and they all have performed well and could not tell a major difference in penetration. They were all heart/lung shots.
