    Shockwave is classified as a firearm not a shotgun and allows it to skirt the legal definitions of both a shotgun and a handgun.

    damn it gets confusing! I am also seeing a loophole that was closed in 2022 that could affect the classification

    Just looking at the Shockwave barrel length of 14 3/8”. Not sure what the overall length is. I thought shotguns had to have at least an 18” barrel. Confusing with the bird’s head grip vs a pistol grip.
    I have a Mossberg Cruiser with a pistol grip and 20” barrel. Interested in the classification also.

    That's all part of the AOW designation. It's also a really good example of how out of touch the ATF is with rules and regs.

    A Shotgun can have a Pistol Grip or a Shoulder Stock - But MUST have an 18" barrel.
    An AOW can't have a Pistol Grip or a Shoulder Stock and CAN be less than an 18" barrel (but longer than 12").

    A shockwave is not an AOW...that is an NFA item

    A shockwave or birds head grip shotgun has an overall length longer than 26 inches but is not a rifle, shotgun, pistol, or nfa item...it is a firearm or Pistol grip firearm...it is a loophole to allow 14 in barrels without a tax stamp and registration

    With a cruiser and an 18 or 20 inch barrel, you still meet the 26 overall length to not be nfa
