    Cuz “compliance”. :(

Cheapest option I’ve found and install was actually really easy. The install video tells you to use a vice and clamps. I did it by holding the jig in one hand and the lower “clamped” between my knees while I watched tv on the couch.

I’m going to start jeweling bolts and such, round surfaces flat surfaces etc. They also call it engine turning.

Obviously, that’s just a mock up but I put my coffee cup and hand there to give you an idea on how small this is

Finally picked up my Axis II XP. Shoots decently well, but I've got some work to do getting it setup and zeroed without a proper outdoor range.

Anyone with experience using Brownells Alumahyde? I painted an AR with it this weekend and am extremely happy with the results. Quick bake in the oven @ 350* for an hour and the finish was tough as nails. Survived reassembly without any scratches and didn’t affect tolerance too much. The take down pin blocks were a little tight but that was expected and I was careful not to fill the slots for the take down pins themselves with paint.

    I have 2 cans I haven’t used yet.
How bad is the smell during the oven process? Would like to still sleep in my own bed after and not in the dog house.

It was actually more smokey than anything. There was a smell (like burnt hair), but that went away pretty quick. Proper ventilation helped (open windows/doors/vent fan). I was nervous about using the kitchen oven since I've heard stories that the smell stays in there. Made roast chicken in it the next day without any problems. :hungry:

A lot of negative review for alumahyde were from people that didn't bake it after applying. It says to let it cure for 10-14 days, but I let it dry over night and baked it the following day. My reasoning was that drying overnight would let if off-gas a lot of the chemical vapors that would otherwise stink up my oven.

For comparison, I baked both receivers, the buffer tube and the handguard, but have been letting two mags and the dust cover cure in ambient temps. I'll find out how they compare as I get more use out of the rifle.

It sprays on thicker than regular spray paint but thins a bit as it cures. Past experiences painting gun parts with spray paint always had me protecting anything threaded since the paint thickness would interfere with fitment, but the buffer tube threaded into the lower without a problem with a single thin coat after being properly baked.

The one thing that was a little disappointing was that I couldn't color fill the lower after the fact because the finish was affected by acetone. I tested it on one of the mags that I didn't bake though so that might have something to do with it since it wasn't "fully cured".

I got you said. My point is that the Kommifornia laws are spreading. Even NV, before the recent shooting that took place, was considering limiting gun rights.
