What have you bought in the last 48 hours gun related?

I've found that most sub sonic ammunition is more accurate than high velocity stuff.

 

All my 22’s love CCI standard velocity, even suppressed, 1/2” groups at 50 yards from a 10/22 and a Ruger Charger with a 10” barrel.

 

Finally got my plates i ordered on 12/24.
Upgrade over this.

 

Ill start by saying im no expert but you have all kinds of options. You should look into something for that application specifically though.

I plan on taking my old midwest plates and putting one in a backpack for my wife and ill probabaly do a low pro vest i can leave in my car with the other. The midwest plates are heavy, cheap and pointy. They are steel so you dont need a trauma pad. I believe it has anti spall coating but im not sure. The hescos are lighter weight and way more comfortable but they cost more. I believe the 4401 models are stand alone so no need for trauma pad.

 

I bought material so i can attempt mods of my own. If i ever go through with it ill post up.

First handgun purchase made, CZ P-10F. Had a delay by the ATF so it took a couple extra days, but not a big deal. Might be a couple months before I get to shoot it though. We don't have an indoor range in the area and I'm not that excited to go shoot when the temp is in the teens.

Yeah I hear ya. There's a place around here called Off Grid Armory that has a semi enclosed shooting area I want to check out. If it gets up to 30 I'll throw some shorts on and go out there.

It's friggin 6 below this morning, I can wait! Do low temps affect the way a gun fires? I destroyed a Minneapolis phone book with a Desert Eagle about 25 years ago and this will be the first gun I've shot since, so kind of new to firearms.

 

Yes, ish. Cold ammo has moderately less velocity/pressure, and lubricants thicken when cold so if a firearm is using the now weaker ammo in the cold it's more susceptible to short stroking/stovepiping/generally jamming up. Most firearms are just fine with all ammo in 99% of weather conditions, as OEM's like to test these sorts of things in advance to ensure reliability. You'll see these things primarily crop up in modified guns where the owners are tuning them to have less felt recoil by reducing how overgassed or undersprung the weapon is, generally to gain a small competitive advantage in good conditions.

As an example, I had a 6.5 Grendel AR15 with Wolf 100gr ammo that I put an adjustable gas block on to turn down the gas and tame the recoil impulse a bit, but I tuned the rifle in warm conditions. When fired in cold conditions it was short stroke city, every single round short stroked. Turning up the gas again fixed the issue, and I found a happy medium between too much power to run the action in warm weather and too little power to run it in cold weather.

In most handguns you change spring rates to achieve the same effect, tuning how sprung the system is to change the way the handgun feels during cycling, often to try to achieve a balance in recoil that results in the sights coming directly back to the eyeline of the shooter so they can press the trigger immediately and achieve fast ROF on close targets.

 

He said this is his first handgun purchase, so no I wouldn't have it in the house without shooting it. How do you know how it shoots, without trying it first? I have mine for personal/home protection, so I wouldn't trust it without firing it.

 

And even if itit just a range toy, being the only firearm in the house, the first inclination when the defication impacts the rotating oscillator, grab the gun.

Plus shooting is fun, educational, showing you weaknesses and strengths in your performance on the range.

 

With the famous boat paddle stock no less.
