    Ok so assuming so
It's better to shoot lower grain ammo for targets for barrel longevity?

Honestly it’s like a 5 point conversation. More than one thing can be true at once. If you shoot hot loaded light ammo, I’m talking about handloads, above at or above max load, you will still get a pretty decent amount of wear. Two things account for wear like I said, pressure and heat.

For pressure, how much powder is burned in a particular capacity for a particular bullet is the formula. This is why a 6.5 creedmoor or any other overbore cartridges will always have less barrel life then say a .308.

As for heat, if you took a .308 in a skinny barrel AR-10 and just mag dumped 100 rds as fast as you could, you would have induced barrel wear. Heat stresses the metal.

If you shoot a 5.56/.223 just train and have fun with it, and stay away from steel ammo. Barrel life is like tires, it’s a consumable product, but it will shoot more money out of it then it’s worth in its own value. If shooting a .308 shoot less than 180gr and don’t let the barrel get super hot, you’ll be Gucci for over 5000rds.

Fantastic optic, but heavier than other options. End of the world tough.

Nope, I didn't get to play with one but they are supposed to be very reliable and rugged optics according to a CATM instructor friend of mine and many other vets I know from other branches. For optics that are used by the military I only have experience with the ACOG and Aimpoint M4S that I personally purchased.

This post makes me sad, because it's a reminder that I haven't bought a 1911 yet.

Anybody got feedback on the Rock Island GI models?

Ive only heard good things, I’ve heard of a lemon here and there but general consensus is that they’re the best entry option.

I have a 9mm GI and a Tac .45. I've had a couple issues, caused by me. Their CS is top notch, and straightened me right out. And I need to dust mine off and turn some money into loud noise.

Sounds like I don't have much excuse. At this point, I practically need one to complement the M1. [Busts out wallet]
