Look up what ammo distributors are charging. Outdoorlimited.com is local to me and supplies some of my local shops. You can buy it from them for the same price as the local gun shops. Its not gouging, its that factories arent producing as much due to the 'rona and that people from all political beliefs are stocking up which separates this panic from the last big one.

I think the size of your city is also a factor. Smaller towns may not even be affected. I live in pretty big city and cant find anything.

Primer manufacturing shut down for like 6 weeks, in that span both Federal and CCI got enough orders to stay in business for the next 3 years without taking another order

Was that a supply shutdown, a COVID shutdown, or both?

    both

plus manufacturers raised pricing 10% and I don’t think they’re shipping primers at all for the next year or so and focusing on in house ammo production

id also imagine they’ll be prioritizing contract orders for .gov .mil and gun manufacturers

They say there is a sucker born every minute, must be true! We had a local online gun auction yesterday and there were dumb-asses paying as much as $1.25 per round for .223 ammo. I can go to my 2 local gun shops right now and still get it for 40-45 cents a round.

Where do you live that you need that much defensive ammo?! At a buck a boom? Shirley you are not shooting it for practice? Not trying to be a dick, just curious.

I was in a GS last Friday to pick up Henry. They had both 9mm and 5.56. 9mm was $22 for 50, I didn't ask the price of 5.56

If I lived in a big city area (my city is 70K population, big for my state) I would want 200+ rounds for rifle and 60 (minimum) for pistol, if shit kicks off it’s going to be bad. As of right now rioters/protesters are being smart and shying away from my neck of the woods but if shit happens it’ll be quick and dirty.
Hence the SBR at my bedside, handguns staged throughout the house, and daily carry has been supplemented by a full size pistol and extra mags in a bag. I should* be carrying my plates behind the back seat of my truck.

Understood, but we have been thru this shit several times. Prices go up, if you can find what you want. Then things go back to normal, whatever that is and prices come back down. That is the time to stock up. Note I said stock up, not hoard way more than you will ever shoot.
    Where do you live?
