Okay, it's a knife, but the BassPro display is at the end of the gun counter, and the ordeal we went through trying to buy that and a fixed Buck for my wife made buying a gun look easy.

I just purchased my first hand gun-4th gen Glock 17 on consignment with 3 seventeen round magazines. The gun was never fired by the previous owner. Only a test round from the factory had been shot per the gun shop owner. My neighbor who is a state trooper and an avid gun guy said it is brand new.

To be honest, it's my first gun. I used to hunt with my dad when I was a teenager but that was 25 years ago and the only shooting I did was at a range with a hunting rifle. I know very little about hand guns but I did do some research. The Glock 17 was not my first choice but with the limited supply and a fair price I figured it was a good purchase. The gun felt comfortable in my hand although I am still quite gun shy. I just felt like it was something I needed to do.

I did also get my CPL a while ago but it will take quite a few rounds to get to that point of carrying a weapon that could fatally injure someone including myself. I have already set up time with my neighbor to head to the range.

My wife is not too happy with my purchase but she knows I am a safe and responsible person. We have a seven year old daughter and one on the way. Once we discussed her concerns and came to an agreement of how it will be handled her mindset has changed for the better.

This is just something I felt like I needed to do.

i wish all gun owners were as responsible as you

I'm not sure of what you and your wife discussed, but there are safes out there that are sized for a handgun and are biometric...you can keep your handgun safe from the kiddos and still have relatively quick access to it for those bumps in the night that arent the kids

I would someday hope that my abilities and her peace of mind would allow a biometric safe setup in the master bedroom somewhere but for now the gun is safely tucked away unloaded and inaccessible to anyone except for myself.

We are fortunate to have quite a few neighbors in the vicinity that are or were law enforcement officers and that our house is located in an open area with an alarm system. Unfortunately, my daughter's mini poodle is not attack trained yet. Then we would have almost all of our home defense mechanisms covered.

Fort Knox makes some really nice heavy duty hand gun safes that are not electronic. I just don't like relying on anything electronic when your life could depend on it's operation to never fail you.

You made a fine choice, the G17 is one of the finest fighting handguns made. I have it's younger brother the G19 (Gen3) and it is the one that gets "Night Duty" at the house.

    +1

Electronic or mechanical, when I'm not home, the safe is locked.
When I am home, the handgun safe is closed but unlocked.
