Please describe the training. I'm curious, and maybe I should train more. Again, not trying to be an ass. I don't know what I don't know.

At a minimum it's basic/simple trigger time at the range. Shooting (proficiently) is one of those skills that requires upkeep. Then there are courses, etc. to expand on the fundamentals.

Basically the difference between qualification and actual training.

When you went to the range to qualify with your M4, did you ever feel like you actually trained with the weapon?

It was until I went into spec ops, that I truly understood what training was. We spent all day at the range shooting, not here’s your 40 rounds to qualify with, don’t waste it.

No, I don’t have $25k to spend on a registered sear.

Edit, I will have a binary trigger soon though.

I guess I do train then, just differently. I live in the country, I can step out my door and shoot anytime I like, but generally just a few shots. I've done 1 mag dump with my AR, maybe twice with 1911s. 1 shot, 1 kill. I practice that.

    Muscle memory does take practice.

M4? lol. When I was in it was called a M16. I think that was before you were born. ;)

If you were in before I was born, we’d be talking M-14’s.

Man, I live in Suburbia. There is a lot of fast moving soccer moms in SUVs ready to plow down people waiting in line to get a Starbuck's coffee. I'm just being prepared for whatever comes my way.

There is no crime in my neighborhood. I also travel before daylight for work. If I was to have a breakdown on the interstate, I want to have something to protect me in case I am approached.

From basic fundamentals such as sight alignment and trigger control to shooting while moving and communicating, shooting in or around vehicles, shooting with an elevated heart rate, shooting off of a barricade, and shooting in uncommon positions. There’s lots of training to be done to be proficient and keep proficiency.
There are tons of simple drills like dot torture, 1-R-1, Mozambique drill, and so many others that will push you to become more proficient.

Don't always need ammo to practice. But anyone that does this often already knew that.

Nah they had switched to M16s. Mine in basic had been shot (or cleaned) so much there was hardly any rifling left.

My Dad told me a crow shit me out on a stump in '52. :) You?
