I went in to the local brick and mortar to look for a flash suppressor one day, and lo and behold, there was a stack of about 8 LT folders sitting on the counter. Grabbed it and ran to the checkout counter as fast as I could.

Shouldn't you run the HK mags a few times each, to be sure they work? And work down any high spots.

There should be no reason the Hk mags wouldn’t work. I’ll test them when I can.

Does anyone have a general idea on how much it would cost to cerakote a 1911? I have never done it myself and I would prefer a seamless finish. The model is a Springfield loaded operator .45 acp.

It is already parkerized and if I could have done it again I would have chosen stainless or another finish that doesn’t show every imperfection

Does being parkerized make it easier to coat?

I’ve cerakoted a few 1911s. It would cost somewhere in the ball park of $300 if you have someone do it.
No it doesn’t matter that it’s parkerized. It needs to be bead blasted and then degreased before application. That’s how I’ve gotten the best results.

Thank you for the responsive feedback. You answered every question I had. I think once I commit, I’ll have a pro do it. I really like the tone now so I’ll probably stick to a gunmetal type hue. Do they spray or brush it on?

That’s the same as I charge as well.

Spray on is the only way I do it

It’s sprayed in coats and then cured in a oven. However there is a air cure option.

Fantastic. Okay final question, does the firearm need working after being coated? Meaning, does it change clearance tolerances and act “stiffer” until you cycle a few rounds through it? I’m assuming not since it has such a good reputation but I have zero experience with handguns and kote.

Um depends how much of a newb the person applying it is, but yes it does change the tolerances, it doesn’t always need to be worked or sanded. However, in the interlock I do like metal on metal contact so I tend to sand it. Same with feed ramp+polish.
