It's been awhile since I posted...just driving it and driving it.
So it was time for some maintenance.
I pulled all the wheels, including the spare, drained the air and replaced it with fresh air. While the wheels were off I rotated the rear brake shoes, noticed they were a little loose so I relaced them and pulled them snug. I also rotated the front brake pads and lubed the rotors.
When I put the wheels back I I finally got all the Toyota logos to line up straight.
Since I finally got my left handed crescent wrench from Amazon, I changed out the muffler bearings. Boy were they worn. Moving up front I winterized the battery by dumping it and putting in battery antifreeze. No I used distilled water, I'm no dummy.
Checking the lights up front...ooops. I didn't just fill the blinker fluid I flushed the system and used the good blinker fluid, the Valvoline. Sure glad the set of left handed screw drivers came in with the wrench, they are a "must have" to change that fluid.
Lastly I noticed that the horns were dull so I sharpened them and I'm all good to go until spring..
    I really love this forum.

I had absolutely 0 issues. The skid replaces the 2 factory “skids” using the rear 2 bolts and then 4 bolts replace the front brace bolts. The directions mine came with were an exact copy from Toyota’s. I think it would fit all 2nd gens but I’m not positive. My instructions said 2014-2020.

Worst case, your truck doubles as a fire starter when you're camping?

New idler pulleys and belt. No more squeaky-squeaky, although a cold start in the morning will be the true test. I also placed an order for an Alu-Cab cap:D. Guess I have a soft topper for sale now!

Edit: Yes, I know the belt is on incorrectly in this pic. Corrected it after I took the pic:thumbsup:

22R ? Nice find. I had one of those. Sold it for $2700 with 82k miles and the oil/water mix from timing chain guides. Should have never sold it.

Selling that was one of my many regrets. Was in pristine condition and my 1st Toyota truck. Sold it to buy a 2000 Prerunner for $5000. That was before values skyrocketed. You just cannot kill those old late 80's as long as you keep rust out of the frame which mine didn't have. Now I am driving Toyota truck #6. Based on my history my next Tacoma may be a 2000.

Well, you could say one of the u-joints was a little bad... Got em replaced and all that..
Don't think this truck has ever run this smooth in the 6 years I've owned it.

I’ve had 3 trucks since ‘89 and only the most recent (‘14 AC 2.7 5M) is a Taco. My roommate in ‘83 had a red 22r. I wouldn’t buy a taco even though I liked them otherwise until they fixed legroom issues and would still have a Ranger if they’d kept making them. That said l, Toyota fixed both the leg room issue and added the clam shells so now I have the perfect truck that gets way better mileage than either of my previous Rangers.

    Thanks for the explanation…….
I just bought the fronts, as I run around with the rear seats folded,…..BUT after I installed the fronts, I liked them so much, I called Rough Country to get the rears BUT they won’t just sell the rears……
