    1. Weather Techs of course
    2. Replaced the passenger mirror that was FUBAR
    3. Brought it home from the Dent Doctor! Now it just needs a good buffing
    4. Painted under the front so I don’t have to see rust 75349F0B-BCC6-4608-AE41-50D3A3F465FD.jpgA1F17853-7915-4B95-917C-654CDC9AC43E.jpgF074415C-A67E-4C97-9290-C6B1AFE647B8.jpg

I did about a 2.5" lift which created a takeoff vibration. I shimmed the rear axle and added a hanger spacer. No change. I finally got rid of my entire two-piece prop shaft and replaced it with a Tom Wood's (https://4xshaft.com) driveshaft and it's been silky smooth ever since!!

I was wanting to do the 5100 and OME route for a max a 2" lift perhaps 1.5". I have looked up those items but recently stumbled on the possibility of vibration with the drive shaft being off. My ability for the DIY stuff is limited by my space and not level gravel driveway. If I paid a shop to upgrade the suspension would they make sure all that stuff is square?

Most shops will install what you ask them to and send you on your way. They’ll do a test drive to make sure everything works as it should but they’re not gonna scrutinize it for minor vibes.

case in point this dumpster fire:

Did you not want to use a diode like this and get a similar result for 1/10 the price?

    No I did not.

I was well aware of the ford diode method but still chose the HKB for a few reasons.

This was purpose built vs a diode that may or may not handle the load and could fail and leave you stranded and this still can act like a fuse.

I wanted the adjustability in case I ever have to use a different battery.

Tinkering with my truck is a hobby and being able to dial in tighter voltages and have more control is something I liked.

    I'm just extra.

If you plan to lift I would buy the carrier bearing drop kit (its like $20), ECGS bearing replacement (also locate the tools), and a digital angle gauge. There are a few threads on tacomaworld on how to measure drive line angle before and after lift. Best approach is to measure drive line angles and write everything down then do the ECGS bearing no matter what and install the lift. THEN after the lift is installed drive it around, get it aligned and let the new suspension settle a bit. If during that time you notice driveline vibration at take off, which is where most people feel it, then get under the truck and measure drive line angles again and go from there. Some trucks show the vibration at take off but not all. I measured mine before and after then installed the carrier bearing drop and my angles were fairly close to pre lift angles so I didn't do shims. Also post up in any Maryland threads there might be some TW members around you willing to lend a hand who might have done this before as well.

I have been wanting to do this, but have put it off due to not knowing exactly what lb rating to get as I couldn't seem to find what the Redline Kits were. When I looked at the link you provided I found they cant be shipped to Idaho, but then found these that appear to be the same, are cheaper, and have a few other lb ratings. I might try the 60lb's just so in the winter they don't get weak and overtime drop the hood on my nogin.

I looked into those but didn’t love the fact that you’re removing the fuse from the system with the ford diode.

I’m running the fixed voltage mini blade version which is much cheaper than the adjustable version. The peace of mind from maintaining the fuse was worth $50 to me.

Well I'm sure there are way more options on Amazon .com than .ca!
The weight rating of the struts are per strut (from what I understand). So I had a capability to lift 200lbs and now it will be 80lbs. The hood is pretty heavy but not 80lbs heavy. Even with wet snow on it lol
I'm sure the 60lbs struts will be fine!

I will see how the new ones perform in the winter.

What kind of mirror did you get? OEM?
My passenger mirror glass has been cracking more and more for the last 2 years.
I bought a replacement lens and went to replace it and the mirror assembly is aftermarket. The lenses are not replaceable on aftermarket ones I guess.

I should have checked before buying the new lens... I always noticed that the mirror looked different than the other one. Damn!

Haha yep, didn't catch the .ca part. No wonder they didn't want to ship them to me!

Ok, I appreciate the info. I still have some time before I get up the money for it so I have plenty of time to source help and buy those items.

    Thanks again

definitely do your research on your lift too cause it will probably change 8 times. Cant go wrong with a 5100/OME pairing up front I think it rides better than stock.
