What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

I may just send it all back. Not sure if I even have everything now. So many different wiring harnesses and what not. I'm pretty good with this stuff but instructions are extremely vague for these wiring harnesses.

 

My 08 doesn't have steering wheel controls. After having them in 3 of my last 4 vehicles I honestly barely used them and don't care about them. The actual radio harness wires are color coded to the metra adapter. Then that part is plug and play. I had mine laid out on a work bench and took my time soldering and shrink fitting the harnesses. Maybe it is a preparation problem. Take 1 xanax and 2 shots of jack d. Then follow the instructions written in Chinese. Then plug it in and see what happens. Caution the screen wording may be in Chinese.

 

My 1st 2008 was a double cab the same color. I really like the red. Sold that one, with better wheels, with under 59k miles after I bought a new 2016. If I could turn back time I would have kept that 2008 and never bought the 2016. I do like my access cabs better since my kids are all adults now. Like my 6' beds.

 

Lmao yeah. Gunna take a break from research and wait til the last wiring harness comes in and go from there. Really annoying right now though. I could of sworn I found a post on how to install everything because that's how I saved all the harnesses to my Amazon list for when I was ready. But now for the life of me don't know where I found that.

 

I had better luck with the on line instructions in the Amazon ad than I did with the paper instructions. Maybe you haven't yet received the main metra harness. I know the mic, usb's, gps antenna and radio antenna are simple plug ins. Like I said the wires on the main harness should be exactly the same on the radio harness. I wired my rear cam, which I installed at the same time, to work off my reverse light so all I plugged in was the video cable. Assuming yours has the stock mirror camera you cannot wire straight to the radio. Mirror cam is 6v and radio cam feed is 12v. We did not wire my sons to the radio. Just left it in the mirror. It is easier to add one like I did that is already 12v.

Yes indeed. I never touch my radio. So this is a must for me.

 

I have a factory back up camera that shows up on the screen of the HU. Didn't know there's a mirror one? But yes the main harness coming is the JBL wiring harness so I can retain the factory sub and amp. I guess my main thing now that I've taken a drink of whiskey and calmed down is I have to find the correct connection for the steering wheel harness. But I will take my time and figure it out. Will probably do a decent write up once I figure it out. As there's not much information for the JBL and steering wheel controls.

What are you trying to achieve? If nobody been in there before hacking things up then it should all be pretty easy. I have a 2007 without JBL. Added amps, subs, and speakers plus line out converter. On the dash side I added OEM steering wheel controls, OEM 2014 head unit and OEM 6v backup cam (came in tailgate handle from picknpull) that now displays on the head unit. I bought a 12v conversion harness from camera source. The whole thing was pretty easy, IIRC all I had to do (aside from plugging in the right wires) was to tap the reverse light circuit to make the camera override the screen in reverse. Feel free to PM me with any questions. It’s been like 7 years so memory maybe a little rusty but it all works flawlessly still

 

Added a bottle of TECHRON during my fill up. 235,866mi I'm presently able to get 21.7 miles per gallon while using cruise control for 95% highway driving and never going over 70 on Waze. Turuck odometer will say like 73.

I totally agree. I was renting a 2022 black TRD OR for a while my truck was in the shop. It sucked trying to find the truck in a parking lot, so many black, white, and silver cars all look the same. I can always pick out the Taco red from across the parking lot.

 

I also agree. I liked mine so much better than my current speedway blue.
