What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Is the Tekonsha adapter needed? I bought the elite with the tacoma package. It looks like it has everything. Idk.

 

To be honest with you, I had no idea this was available and probably what I would select if I did it again, I would assume you could use this with the other two parts that I mentioned.

 

I believe it is needed. You could always contact etrailer or redarc and ask them.

 

Lubed my TC upper control arms and installed new lower shock bolts and nuts.

Well, this set lasted 1 week...... stuffed the tire while offroafing and immediately heard it break. ABS just isn't cutting it

makes me wonder if C4 liners > FendX due to being metal

though the FendX looks like a softer plastic that may be less brittle and less likely to crack/break

fendX site says they’re formulated to be indestructible
Heard they’re harder to install than C4

 

What was the temperature like? Maybe they were brittle from the cold. I saw these fender liners when searching the other day but man are they expensive. Maybe you can fab them yourself?

Yes. Homemade. I bought a couple 4'x8' sheets of ABS plastic for about $25 a piece.

I've gotten pretty quick and making them but I am sick of doing it over and over. Unbreakable, eh? That sound like a challenge.

 

I've looked I to the c4's but I can't justify that kind of $. I buy 4'x8' sheets of ABS for about $25 a sheet. I may try to fab some out of aluminum, but that will require an entire redesign. ABS is so easy to work with, and I've heard that kydex is a good option that is simular to work with, but more resilient.

It was not at all cold. Set before these broke snow wheeling, as well as a couple sets before that one. Cold definitely makes this material more brittle. This time it was just blunt force that did it.

 

Probably my next step. Gonna require a redesign as I'm not gonna be able to mold aluminum like the ABS with a heat gun.

 

Bud I honestly hope you are just TRYING to be funny. When treating or plowing DOT mandates you can only be behind the wheel for a certain number of hours - then you HAVE TO park it. Some guys sleep during a 20 plus hour call-in - I choose to work on my truck.

Time to invest in a bending brake?

 

It would sure make it easier. I've always done it by hand with some 2"x6" scraps and some clamps.

 

I have one, its not much better. I only needed it for one project so I dealt with it.

 

surely someone knows a better material to not break. Whether that be a plastics shop, materials science engineer, or someone on here.

one material is large rubber mud flaps cut to shape,
but it tends to be too thick, too heavy, for this purpose
as well as flexible to the point of sagging under it's one weight that would need way too many fasteners to secure it and still likely sag, versus something more solid that holds its shape better

noeprene from a hardware store used for drawer liners
or actual drawer liners, would both probably be too thin and easy to tear

at least now you have a shape template which might be the hardest part

I made inner liners (the ones by where the exhaust manifold is) from toolbox drawer liner and they've already started ripping, though I was too rough removing one to work on the truck so it's probably my fault.
