I've had a sound in the truck that I suspected was the wheel bearing but I wasn't sure, I've never had one go bad in a tacoma and it didn't exhibit any change in sound as the truck is turned at speed like I'm used to with other vehicles, also no detectable play. It was just a hum that increased in speed along with the truck, couldn't really tell where it was coming from but my hearing isn't that great and I figured @ 150K fr wheel bearings are a good idea no matter how you look at it.

I ordered a set of spindles with the NSK brgs and installed them this morning before it got too hot out. First time doing it on a tacoma, it was pretty easy and best of all, very straight forward. Took about 3 hrs for both sides taking my time. Both of the old assys seem to spin smoothly and I can't feel any play in them when mounted with a wheel on the truck or checking by hand when they were pulled off but at least one of them was bad, the new ones solved the issue.

Looking to get 35x12.5x16s on my truck. Let me know how you like them?! I’m sure they’re super quit now being that they’re new.

It is a mod that allows you to turn on the TRD Locker regardless of 2hi/4hi/4lo

That's pretty cool...wonder if it'd work on a e-locker, probably not. Just had one added to my Prerunner to make it a little more off-road capable.

About how long did you have the noise for before replacing? Similarly I've been noticing a hum that gets louder with speed but doesn't change with turning like I'm used to on previous vehicles, but also having a hard time discerning it from tire noise as my wildpeaks are nearing the end of their life and aren't worn super evenly. I'm at 180k, mine seems to be coming more from the back though, which aren't quite as easy as the fronts. Typically I'd just keep waiting to see if it gets louder but I've got a ~2500 mile trip coming up in a couple months though which makes me wonder.

Curious how you'd engage your locker in 4hi (or 4lo) on a PreRunner.....

I've also got wildpeaks and heard they get louder as they wear which added another uncertainty as to the cause. I first noticed it in the last couple months, around the time I lifted the truck a couple inches. First I swapped in an ECGS bushing which took care of vibrations from the lift. I also serviced the tranny recently, full flush so I had a concern this was related to the tranny. Lots of possibilities.

I eventually decided that if I tear into it and start replacing some parts, which part I'd prefer it to be and which one would I be ok with if what I swap isn't the problem. That made the decision easy, wheel bearings. Since they already had 150K on them they were close to the end of their life if they weren't shot and I would have eventually replaced them anyway.

Yup, same thinking here lol I just haven't done the trans or ECGS bushing, but I'm only lifted an inch and haven't noticed it change since then or in/out of 4wd. Maybe I can last until I get new tires and see if that impoves it, otherwise I'll probably just do the front wheel bearings since they'll be due eventually anyways. Thanks for the input!

Who knows, but not I am looking into doing the FJ conversion. I'll circle back if or when I get this going.

So far, i'm digging how quiet they are. These are e rated 10plys but the durability is what I wanted anyway.

Mostly stock, just happy to have a truck.
Sent my much loved 2015 prerunner on to a new home.

Now welcoming his successor (huge shoes to fill) a 2014 4Runner limited. Sorry for the crappy pic, will get a better one later but was trying to get everything shuffled into all the new space.

Just being cheeky... does your PreRunner have 4wd? If so, its not a PreRunner.
