I personally run 93 only because I use my truck for work. I mow for a living and tow 2900lbs twice a week. But honesly, I run shell 87 during the winter. And it's still super quiet. I am a firm believer in shell fuel. Not just for my tacoma. But for all my lawn equipment. I would recommend you run 93 if you offroad or use it for work. But as a daily driver, just dump shell 87 and you'll be just fine. You'll still notice a huge differance in the way it idles

Being able to laugh at yourself is a valuable and remarkable trait!

If you want some entertainment and don't want to feel so bad, search for "customer states" on YouTube. They post a collection of videos of customers who bring their vehicles in for repairs...I will let the videos give the rest of the story.

I used to have an old BMW R75/5 motorcycle. It wasn't a speed demon by any stretch of the imagination, but on occasion when I had it at the airport for flying, I'd fill her up with 110 low lead avgas, and damn, did it ever wake up that old girl!
    Octane matters!

Well, I just set up my scan gauge II to monitor horsepower. It's more than likely a PID. So, hard to say how accurate it is. I made a rip on the highway to see what it would put down since I run 93, have a K&N OEM style filter, and, a X2Power AGM battery. My goal was to make my 1GR-FE run as efficient as possible stock. I've read when you dump just 93 in these. Power bumps up to 239hp and 278lb ft of torque. My scan gauge said i put down 260hp. Torque? Not sure. But ill speak for experience, if you do these things, it really helps these engines to run super efficient. I know the X2Power battery is expensive. But if you use the truck for work like me, and you get 95° days here where the heat index is 110, the 27F agm will help take the load off the electrical system when the ac is full blast. Then, the oem style K&N will help the engine to get more air. I've watched YouTube to see if they really make a difference. And they do. Engineering explained did a video on it. My 1GR-FE is super happy. Honesly, it would not surprise me if that PID is accurate. I talked to @Williston , it's a differance you can hear and feel when you dump premium in these engines. Especially if you do the agm upgrade and drop a good filter in it to give the engine more air.

I figured I would share my experience in this thread to give back to tacoma world since many have helped me on here.

Thanks! Now I have more things to buy for my truck! lol. I'm guessing I'm guessing I'll be needing a new battery one of these days, it still has the one it came with over 5 years ago.

I’m sorry man, but none of this checks out. Higher octane may allow the motor to advance the timing curve a little more, so you can get a little more power or mpg, but it will absolutely do nothing to quiet down the notoriously noisy valve train, VSV, etc. And when your motor runs and the belt spins the alternator, it matters zero what kind of battery you have in there.

Think what you want to man, but I posted my video proving that top tier fuel makes a differance. Mine made so much noise, sounded like it was going to blow up. I came to the this very fourm to seek help. And that's what others have said. It's not just me that has said this. I'll post the video again. View it for yourself. At the end of the day, you have to understand that everyone has had different outcomes with their 1GR-FE. I can sit at my pc and read this freaking fourm all day. Times where I have nothing to do, ill sit here on the fourms for 30min. I literally read on here where people have mixed opinions and outcomes of running iridium plugs in their truck. Some have had goof luck and some not. But back on topic, doing these things have been great with mine. And I know their will be lots of others on here that will back my opinion. Here's the link again to my video.

Little do you realize to, batteries can make a difference on your electrical system. I've seen proof of that myself. Is it going to be a 30hp gain? Of course not. But I would not be suprised to see a 1 or 2 hp gain dropping in a good agm on a 1grfe. Allowing my truck to make huge power was not my end goal. My end goal was to let the engine run as efficiently as possible. But at the end of the day man, you have your own opinion and I have mine, I figured I would share my 2 cents on tacoma world because people have given back to me.

Woa did you just wake up and choose violence bro?

But sure, I’ll humor you. How exactly does a fancy battery improve horsepower?

A video of an engine running does not prove that a certain brand or even octane made your engine quieter
Can you back this up with anything other than feelings?

Little do people realize, when you have the ac full blast, and other electronics running, having a nice agm that's made to shoot power NOW!!!!! Makes a differance. I've seen dyno runs with a 4AGE toyota engine make 1 or 2 more horsepower just on a battery upgrade alone. When you turn on the ac, you have to understand that's taking like 10hp from the vehicle because of the huge electrical draw. So, put a good agm their to assist the alternator, in turn, what does that do? Keeps your electrical system much more efficient because the engine has to strain more to keep that electrical load.

It's not the octane that made the differance, it's just top tier fuel in general. You can dump shell 87 in these and it make a huge differance in how it idles. Only reason I run premium is I want the most out of the engine when using it for work. Seriously, you guys thinking I'm putting feelings into this? Come on. All I'm trying to say is at the end of the day, most of us on here are mechanically inclined in some way. We All have our own opinions. Am I right or am I wrong? Just saying. I'll no longer give my 2 cents on here then

A battery will not change how the vehicle runs, however the voltage mod you did definitely does. It increases the alternator load, reducing your mpg and power available (by a small amount)

Your AC isn’t taking 10hp from the motor because of the electric load, it’s not electric, only the fan is.

See, again, I'm not getting feeling out, all I'm trying to say is majority of us on here are mechanically inclined in some way. And over the years of me learning from others, I see that in the world of mechanical stuff with vehicles, we all have our own opinions. I guess I'll never give my 2 cents on here again

I don’t think you understand how this works. And that is okay. I’m happy you have a nicely running motor! Happy Friday.
