This past Saturday I got my replacement fuel filler door one with some 4-40 hardware. Pulled the flare and inner fender to reach the washers and nuts inside the fender. Added a Meso Gashole while I was at it.

Ultimate headlight upgrade with Osram 100/90 bulbs. Whipped up a little bracket to hold the relays. Got some new hardware and painted it Sunday.

How do you like the new light output. I had excellent LED headlights on my 3rd gen but don't want to go that route on my 2nd gen. This light upgrade has been on my want list for 3 years now. What was the total cost for the whole upgrade.

How does she like the stock gears? Any issues with steering failure or excessive wheel bearing wear running the 35's?

I really like it. I have had it on my other truck for several years now. Light output is pretty good and I also like that it at least seems a little whiter. I took some before and after pics, I'll have to look at them tonight and see how they turned out. Total cost was around $150 for the harness and the bulbs run $15-20 a piece depending on where you get them. Install takes an hour tops not including making the bracket for the relays.

Thanks for the details. Most do Fluid Film here so I was interested in someone actually applying Cosmoline. Yeah, the price of the rp342 scared me away. At $20.00 per can of the CRC corrosion inhibitor was a better price point for a similar type product. I’ll be curious to see how it holds up to some heavy rain we recently received. Also expecting a Atmospheric River for 3 days coming up. I did use a little corrosion free too I got from Canadian Tire. Just on the spare tire mechanism and chain. I need to consider the inside of the front boxed area of the frame. Need to find a 360 straw spray adapter. Otherwise it was all the exposed areas of the C-channel frame with the CRC and anywhere else that was exposed. Not being in the rust belt, I’ll have to see how everything holds up when I inspect underneath next summer. I do regularly spray underneath at the pay and spray in the middle of winter if weather permits to keep the salt washed off as much as possible. Also, the 3rd gens have some sort of goop applied at the factory on all the frame lap joints. Hopefully that helps too. Really sucked crawling around on a tarp over a gravel driveway. Lift would have been awesome!

Tried to start it unsuccessfully twice before it ran the third time.

wondering what it is now on top of the other 10-20 things it needs.

maybe a starter. Creeping on 200k.
Maybe the shitty stock fuel pump that should be replaced anyway. Guess I can start by throwing that at it see if it changes anything (the URD replaceable filter kit I would think)

On my previous 07 tacoma I had installed flush mount LED pods in the rear bumper. I put off adding rear lights on my current 08 tacoma till I just moved to a new house without good external lighting/street lights, so it can be annoying backing in when its dark. While I liked the flush mount pods I decided I didnt want to bother cutting the bumper this time. I previously moved the trailer plug to the side of the license plate, so I decided to use the threaded bolt holes to mount the light bar.
Here is the light bar and switch I used, I would have rather all flood light but I liked the dimensions of this light bar.
Over all I like how it came out, I did have to use flat stock to drop the mounting brackets down about 2 inches so the light would be flush with the bumper.

Mine is not hooked up to the backup lights, I have a switch so I can use it anytime I want. I dont see why you couldnt tap into the backup light wiring for a relay signal so they do come on with the reverse lights.

Painted over the new frame ground location today.

also found that the rear clunk I’ve been hearing for months is a blown shock. New set of 5100s going in.

Did you paint the fuel filler door or just left it black?

Replaced my battery yesterday with a DieHard Platinum AGM battery since I have quite a few extra electronics hooked up to it. I also wanted something a bit more "rugged" in terms of vibration and longevity and AGM seems to be the way to go. My question is do I need to have my OTT tune reflashed for this battery upgrade, or is it fine the way it is? My truck cranks up almost immediately now which is great.
