i’m not sure yet. the exhaust hangs over the rear axle about half an inch or a full inch…
i really should’ve thought about these things lol

 

Suspend that pipe with a hanger from the frame/cross member/ etc. Leave plenty of clearance for the axle to move up & down. That close to the axle housing, it's gonna vibrate, rattle, drive you nuts, and probably break. Welding it to the housing is not the way.

 

I changed the oil and reset the maintenance light.
One less light on the dash!
Oil changes are super easy after installing the Fumoto drain valve.

 

I've got that bumper, except I did not get the extra light cut outs. Love it, it is definitely beef.

Cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body, and replaced the PCV valve (thanks to the guy who reminded me about this earlier!)

It bothers me a little that I couldn't get the gate/flap perfectly clean in the corners closest to the actuator bar. There was a quarter/half inch that wasn't perfectly cleaned to the metal but I got the housing perfectly clean.

Next time I'm going to get some toothpicks or something to scrape those areas.

Anyway, she feels a bit smoother at idle and I would say definitely smoother and stronger at WOT acceleration on the on ramp. Maybe a bit better getting up and going from stop lights?

Anyway, the only 60k service items left are the differentials, transfer case, and transmission fluid. Going to get these done in the next month.

Got the 3rd member replacement completed yesterday by getting the drum brakes properly adjusted. Took it for a test drive and unfortunately the whining noise is still there. I will say that I think it was still in need of replacement as the clinking on take off was steadily getting worse and its now completely gone. Rather than just throw more parts at it I'm going to make an appointment to drop it at the stealership and let them look at it.
I also welded up the floor I accidentally put in the floor of my other truck. First time welding sheetmetal so no pics as it isn't very pretty, but its closed up now.

 

I just changed the oil on my 2008 Toyota Tacoma (295,511 miles). One of the easiest and fastest oil changes to do on a vehicle.

All of us 2nd Gen owners know the oil filter is located at an angle on top front end of the engine with easy access to install and remove, etc.

(this is the new oil filter installed.....should have taken a picture of the old beat up oil filter but didn't)

BUT!..........I had a rare and rude encounter with removing the oil filter this time. In all my life I had never encountered this situation on my Tacoma truck nor on my wife's 2016 Toyota 4Runner.

Yes the oil filter was really STUCK on and would not easily come loose for removal.

While first trying to remove the oil filter with a oil filter removal tool, along with a ratchet and extension (used various lengths of extensions) well when trying to force the oil filter loose this suddenly and unexpectedly happened!




So while tryin different technic's, etc. on trying to remove the oil filter, it kept getting damaged in the process by getting banged up, dented, etc.

Finally, my last hope and solution....I had to use the dreaded "jaws of life" to slowly remove the oil filter. At first it would not budge and just kept getting dented, etc. but I kept at it and well it slowly started to come loose.....finally was able to remove it completely.


When installing an oil plug or oil filter I always make it a point to just install to the point where it is just snug.....never over tighten, etc.
For a new oil filter....right before I install it....I always lubricate the oil filters gasket, area where it threads, etc. so to prevent such a thing from happening that I encountered.

I always change the oil on our vehicles and NEVER had this problem dealing with an oil filter removal process.....but like everything in life there's always a first time for everything....right.

Still I am stumped as to why the oil filter was stuck...I mean really stuck on like glue?!.......it's anyone's guess but I suspect that since the weather down here in South Central Texas has been getting so damn hot....along with the engine heating up...could have caused the oil filter to expand a bit and then contract (due to the temperate coming down over night?) causing it to just completely get stuck on and sealed to it's base?

After all the drama and shit combined..….I decided to upgrade and finally buy a good quality oil filter removal tool and purchased this one!
As for the cheap oil filter removal tools from Autozone, O'Reilly's, etc.....
I'M DONE!!!!!

 

I had to get the “jaws” after a free initial oil change. I know exactly what your old filter looked like. Never again for maintenance I can do myself.

Too many shops torquing oil filters way too tight, those are the only times I've ever had issues. I've done hand tight on hundreds of oil changes and never once had a leak or issue removing if I was the one that did it last time haha.

 

hand tight is the way! harley davidsons heat up and seize the filters on pretty good, brutal one i had to deal with after buying a used dyna years ago
