Slid off the highway and got hit by another truck (F*&$@# GMC!). So much for my flawlessly maintained '08 TRD...

    $4000 in front body work...
    $??? in front drive train....

After the wreck I told the shop that there's more to this than bodywork - that when I tried to drive the truck away from the scene, I had to hold the steering wheel at about 45* to the left and even then the steering felt "soft". I cautioned them and my insurance not to put money into the body work until they'd throroughly checked the front drive train, steering and suspension. No one listened. As it turned out, the shop didnt even take the wheel off to inspect the drivetrain or suspension! Insurance paid the $4K for body work and the shop gave me my truck back. I asked about the front end and they said it just needed an alignment. After a short test drive I took it back.

There's a high frequency vibration (like a thrumming/humming) that becomes noticable at about 60mph and gets stronger as you go faster. Becomes VERY obvious when you let off the gas at 60 and start to coast. Since the feel is more in the pedals and front floor than the steering wheel, I suspect the problem is not the wheel itself, but in the drive train from the front diff to the wheel - bent or unbalanced CV driveshaft or maybe damaged cv joint.

$&%%* mechanic says its the tires! As if I dont know what my own truck's tires sound & feel like! Guess I'll take that up with the insurance company...

There's something in the brakes too- the first time I tap the brakes after changing from forward to reverse, there's a metalic clank. It's not the u-joints - that would "clunk" when you changed gears or pressed the gas (torque- caused), this happens when you press the brakes. I suspect a loose caliper or broken shoe...$&%%* mechanic says its a loose dust shield... More to talk to my insurance company about...

This is what happens when your other half (who can't drive a stick and won't get in a cold truck) says, "I will go start your truck so its warm"
