If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
I got a random $600 check yesterday from the unemployment office [IMG] (I guess they underpaid??? me when I got laid off over 6 months ago). So, it looks like I will be ordering the aFe cat-back today (49-46002). I am really looking forward to the extra 26hp/30lbs.ft. Torque!!! [IMG] (j/k) I will be sure to post vids/soundclips.

Looked up prices on a new battery. Wondering if my battery will be dead after this deployment, with have 2 more months to go. Also, wondering if hooking up the battery tender would have been a good idea and just pay the cost of the electric bill for it.

I'm an engineer (mechanical). You want a "trickle" battery tender if you get one. Because you don't want a high output one on your car for 2 months straight. It will most likely be 10watts of power consumption. We can estimate <25w to be safe.

    • 25Watts
    • Florida 2009 - 11.49 Cents / KWHr
      • 12.20 Cents/KWHr accounting for 3% inflation
    • 2months = 61 days (est.) = 1464 hr
    • Watts/1000 * hours = 36.6KWHr
    • KWHr * $ = $4.47
Most new truck batteries are going to be at least $90.

This is given that the current battery will even hold a charge and or benefit from trickle charging. Also this is given that it is not possible to get someone to place/remove the trickle charger.

I've been on deployments (3-4 months) were I've left a truck sitting and come home to have a vehicle fire right up. I've also had a couple where I've disconnected the battery and when I get back hook it up and starts no problem....I've also had ONE deployment where I left everything hooked up and come home to need a jump from a buddy. I say disconnect it if you can and you might save yourself some cash.

How about a trickle charger ? They're cheap and keep the battery charged. I believe a lot of people with boats use them so will start up with infrequent use. Should work for you. Thanks for the service.

Yeah, I was on a deployment from last Oct till this past Mar... A cold snap came through Georgia and came home to the battery being completely dead both on the motorcycle and truck. (thank goodness for a warranty for a new truck battery). I bought a battery tender for it and the motorcycle, but didn't connect either of them... We shall see what happens when I get home... Here's hoping they both fire right up or just need a jump and still hold a charge.

I have a "automatic" battery charger that charges at 10amp, then drops to a trickle charge once it's at 100%. I've left lights on that drained the battery enough that the door chime and dash lights wouldn't come on 3 times. I've jumped it each time, let it run for a few minutes, then 20 mile commute to work. Truck may have struggled a bit to start after work, but it did and I drove home. Once home put it on the charger over night. It's probably been a year since I last drained it and the battery is still running strong.

The charger is supposed to have a desulfinate mode so maybe that helps.

Before and after. Since Friday I have installed the TRD smoked headlights and also installed the color matched grill to the 4x4 SR5 DC. I had to get rid of some of that chrome. :D

Hopefully stopped the slight coolant odor / leak on the hose from the radiator to the coolant tank.

Smoothed the molding seam, installed spring type hose clamps on each connection.

    Topped off coolant.

Today is the day to find out...
