Today I took off the useless heat shield that came with my K&N air sucking tube. No more rattle sound when I accelerate.

I did its 10000 mile service (oil change and rotated the tires) and gave it a bath. I decided to start doing my oil changes and tire rotations myself since the dealer is 50 miles away.

I was told a benefit of having the AC on with the defrosters was that it kept the AC seals in good shape over the winter when the AC system would ordinarily not be on. Any truth to this ? If so wouldn't having it not go on shorten the life of the AC ?

I've heard this too. However the AC system can't start until the heater is warm enough to make the air going across the thermistor on the evaporator about 45ºF or so (whatever it's cut-in temperature is, some cars are as low as 39º and others as warm as 55º). Otherwise the water taken out of the air would instantly freeze to the evaporator and block the airflow, risking hydrolock to the compressor. That's why it takes a couple minutes to kick in. /end random info plug

Why can't it be like the older Hondas? When defrost was kicked on, the AC would be enabled and the button lit up; if you didn't want it on, just push the button and it would turn off! Such a WONDERFUL way of doing things.

That is true, But also it de-humidifies the air before entering the cab.. so with the ac not going while on defrost it can fog up the windshield/windows retty quick....
So its a must in humid/wet climate...

Good luck with that. It takes 40km over to get our vehicle impounded here. Unlike you guys our highways have curves and turns. I can't count how many Alberta plates I've seen blow past me on BC highways to see "y'all" in the ditch or worse on the next hairpin.

I should open a brake and transmission shop in Edmonton or Calgary!

If it saves a life, I'm good with our laws.

I don't spend that much time blasting down the freeway in my Tacoma, I wheel it.
