What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Loose u bolts on rear end. I used to have a 88 Toyota pickup that the u bolts came loose and changed the drive shaft angles. Not as noticeable at low speeds. Under hard acceleration and up at highway speeds it was very noticeable.

 

I want to say 2" but I happened to have one laying around when i did the project. I just disassembled everything and eyeballed if it was big enough. Ill measure it tonight and let you know if its different than 2"

I am thinking about de badging too, its such a clean look on the Taco's!!

You effectively decreased your light output and to be honest, it looks terrible. Why not use appropriate spray tint or better yet, smoked vinyl? The wheels, calipers, and roof came out great.

people have the misconception the needle bearing in the front diff causes wheel shake, it only causes vibrations felt in the pedals or floorboards

i have wheel shakes when i dont have consistent torque on my lugs, might want to check there. shakes are normally balance issues/bent rim or a toque issue on hardware being off or loose -- if none of those check brakes

I think the lugs were/are fine... rims also seem to be fine. At the tire shop, when I had my wheels checked, they told me they all spun true.

Think I should ask them to check the brakes AND rotors then?!

 

They spin balance good but have they tried road force balance?

 

Hmm... good question. My guess is probably not since I don't remember hearing anything about "road force" balancing.

 

roadforce balance your wheels, just check for pad wear if its even, check if any of the pistons are seizing, and if hes already got that far just check the wheel bearings as well.

With two different sets of wheels and tires, I don't really think it is a tire problem.

 

I'm thinking the same... I mean, what are the odds that BOTH sets of wheels and tires are "bad"?!

Kinda slim to none I think... or hope.

 

Here's what I have going so far. Putting together a letter to bring with me, to hand to the person at the desk and taping one in the inside of the truck for the service guy (suggestion from @Breakfast Taco and @vssman).

 

How many miles on it? I was having a similar issue, along with a clunk at start/stop. CarMax replaced the entire driveshaft assembly, including the carrier bearing, and it solved the issue. I'm pretty sure it could have been solved by just replacing the carrier bearing, but it was all covered by the warranty I had purchased, so I said fuck it, and let them replace it all.

My money is on something driveline related, driveshaft and/or carrier bearing.

 

Installing @Plastics Guy 's wicked front bump stops today!

 

Right now it's coming up on 60k. I put the Pro suspension on right around 50K and it was already doing it then.

 

Have you stopped to wonder if it is due to driver error?
