Duramax has a funky "divot" in the driver's side manifold. Nobody could ever figure out what it was for.
Some speculated that it was done to equalize backpressure because of the unequal distance between the manifolds and the turbo inlet.

Finally... some 7 or 8 years after the Duramax was introduced in the GMT-800 Silverado, the reason for the divot was discovered quite by accident.

A forum member successfully transplanted a Duramax/Allison combination into a GMT-400 4x4 Suburban ("old" body style, 1990-2000 era).

The divot perfectly clears the steering shaft. The thing was originally designed to go into the GMT-400, but didn't get into production trucks until 2001 in the GMT-800 body.

Ever been into CK5? I still get on there once in a while. They are alot like TW. Good people and very helpful. They were a HUGE influence on building my old '89 Blazer.

They are AllPro, took awhile to get them to Canada. I ordered them in January, they arrived yesterday. Worth the wait as they are very well built. If its warm enough this afternoon I will put another coat of paint on them and install tomorrow.

Haven't heard of that one.
I was most active on Dieselplace and Fullsizedchevy
I'd drop in on Dieselstop every now and then but they were mostly all about PowerJoke (just as DP was primarily Duramax/6.5).

But I love the old K5s and if I had a house with a nice 3 car garage I'd be working a pre-'75 K5 project (pre-'75 is smog exempt in CA).
Dad had a '74 K5 and we had a lot of fun in that. I could put my Marshall stack and a guitar in my '69 LeSabre, but I could get the whole band's gear in that Blazer!
