What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

What sort of mischief are you getting in to today? I'm trying to get my Sunday morning chores done and if the weather cooperates get out and install the lift kit on the camper and the hub conversions.

 

I'm actually going to change the transfer case oil in my daughter's Nissan Rogue. Should be fun as it will be the first time I've gotten to use my 4 ramps, and I got to buy a 20" 3/8 extension for the job.

 

Long extensions are handy to have. You don't tend to use them alot but really nice to have when they are needed. I need some more extensions. I need more tools never enough. I may need some tools when we work on Skippers truck in a couple of weeks

 

"Enough" and "tools" are 2 words that don't seem to ever go together.

 

Spent too much on it...

I bought it a few days ago (4) and it came with a mild lift, step bars, aftermarket wheels/tires, and a Snugtop. The Snugtop was fitted with rails, and so I decided that I'd like to put a basket up there.

Went to the store, was brutally raped, and walked out with a Yakima rail system (aero something or other, Jetstream blahblahblah). The bars are wide. No wider than the widest point of the body, but I feel like I need to cut them down.



Worse, the basket that I'd gotten to sit on the cab of the Z71 which the Taco replaces seems a bit... small. I got a 'Coleman' one off Amazon for a few bucks. It's decent, but I'm thinking I'll eventually bite the bullet and get a Yakima basket which I spend way too much more on.

This thing is already sucking me dry in mods. I suppose it's a good thing I enjoy modding vehicles! It's an even better thing that the PO did most everything that I'd have done; so I got to start from a really good place.

 

Had that same thought, checked with a magnet. It was steel.

 

Dayum. I guess sometimes too much torque is a bad thing.

Did you paint the AC vents or leave them the black that they were already?

 

Neat looking where do you get the lighted mirror switch or is that a OEM item on a 15

 

Did you paint the plastic pieces as well or just the chrome?

 

Is it a DPDT type switch

 

What kind of prep did you do? I didn't think you could paint over chrome without sandblasting or some other rather aggressive form of roughing up the surface.

 

Looks like a Taco Shriner Convention. You guys wearing your Fez's?

 

Just got done with the heated mirror mod. Of course it’s going to be 70 next week so can’t test them out.

I left it AS IS but thinking about it now i should have painted it while i was at it, it would have looked cleaner

 

Plasti-Dip is miraculous. It'll stick to chrome (or anything else) easy as you please and when it gets ratty or faded you just peel it right off. No prep needed. I love painting the occasional stripes, or what have you on my cars. Completely reversible.

My first attempt at doing my own audio system. Very budget conscious for now. The speakers were free and I designed my own adapters. Unfortunately I couldn't find anyone with a 3d printer larger enough to do my front speaker plates ap I had to use the metra ones and did see a point in posting those. So learning experiences from this was use brass inserts not aluminum as I believe my soldering iron got hot enough to actually damage the internal threading of the inserts. Also no matter how much you verify speaker wire length you'll still come up short lol but all in all these project went pretty smooth. The black adapters were print in ABS. Cost me $10 each to print. They weigh roughly 210 grams. The tweeter adapters cost $1 and weigh 10 grams. The grey versions I printed in PLA with minimal infill just for mock up and to ensure they fit. Which that did! My front plate adapter still needs some modifications to the design but if I find a large enough printer I'll be doing those and would cost roughly 20 each as they weigh almost a pound according to my modeling software. The headunit cost $159 and amp was $50. No sub for now... but someday I'll be able to ball out big!
